Sharjah: The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) recently held a training course entitled "Organizational identity and its role in management and performance development" at the department's conference hall. This new training course was aimed at developing the skills of branch and section managers and officials, and was presented by Dr. Amr Saleh.

A detailed description of the main principles that help enhance performance in corporate business, i.e. privatization, globalization, corporate governance, disclosure,  accountability, social responsibility and transparency, were presented during the course.

Said H.E. Ali bin Salim Al Mahmoud, SEDD Director General, said during the event: "The development of corporate performance is one of the main foundations in the expansion process of any establishment. Therefore, SEDD has taken special care in this regard and sought the latest updates concerning this field, and will continue with this strategy to enhance the competitiveness and performance of its employees to achieve the department's goals while supporting the economic growth of Sharjah.

"SEDD has reaped success after success, and we are proud today to have an elite group of efficient employees who are able to provide distinguished services, and who have adapted their acquired skills through work, training courses and conferences constantly offered by the department. This has resulted in the continuing satisfaction of the wide range of clients who have direct contact with SEDD," added Al Mahmoud.

Participants were introduced to the three forces driving the new global economy; the first of which is knowledge. This involves using intellectual capital as a strategic factor in addition to a set of understandings used by people to make decisions or take actions that are important to the company, or procedures that provide added value to establishments.

The second principle is change a continuous, rapid and complex factor, which generates uncertainty and reduces predictability. The final principle is globalization, which includes research and development, technology, production, trade, finance, communication and information, and which results in the opening of economies, global hyper-competition and the interdependency of business.

Said Hanadi Ali Al Muheri, Head of Quality and Control at SEDD: "We received a large amount of important information regarding the development of corporate performance in line with the recent changes in the economic climate. We looked at the study of corporate structures, increasing of budgets, interest in information technology and computer programs, training programs, human resources, and the conduct of research and studies. We also discussed the financial situation of the establishment and the needs of the partners."

Al Muheri went on to say: "We cab be proud of the fact that SEDD has provided training courses in all aspects mentioned herein as we can now confidently go on with the economic development process.  We will work hard to present quality services that are on par with the high economic position of Sharjah."

Dr. Amr Saleh is a well-known managerial and scientific figure. He has occupied numerous careers and positions, among them Associate Professor of Economics and Management at Sorbonne University; Advisor to the Minister of Development and Sustainability; Former Advisor to the State Minister of Environment; and Project Officer for the Middle East SME World Bank Program at the World Bank.

At the end of the course, distinguished employees were honored by H.E. Ali bin Salim Al Mahmoud. He encouraged them to work hard to help achieve SEDD's goals - goals that aim to push the wheel of economic growth according to modern means, and which are on par with the Department's effective contribution to Sharjah's economic performance, wide range of clients and supervision of various markets in the emirate.
