Dubai - SDC Trailers, one of the largest trailer manufacturers in Europe, has announced that it has formally establishedits operations in theregion with the launch of SDC Middle East.
The official launch took placerecently at an exclusive gala event held at the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai,UAE, which wassupported by Invest Northern Ireland andattended by Northern Ireland Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Arlene Foster.
Speaking at the launch event, Mark Cuskeran, Managing Director, SDC Group, said: "SDC has been working in the Middle East for some time, but now was the time to officially establish a permanent presence here in the region after we have witnessed stellar growth in the last few years."
He added: "We identified a gap in the export market for a stronger, sturdier trailer for heavy haulage in the Middle East, which a €1.5million (AED 6,229,655) trailer order late in 2014 from the Rezayat Group in Saudi Arabia underlined. A dedicated presence based in-market will now help us focus on providing specialist trailer builds for regional clients."
Established in Toomebridge, Northern Ireland in 1978, privately owned SDC Trailers has been actively building its presence in Middle East and has been successful in securing a number of significant orders for its specialised HGV units.
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Arlene Foster, commented: "The countries of the GCC, especially Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are target markets for Northern Ireland exporters, education and tourism. Growing export sales and the growth of local businesses is a core area of growth for us, so I want to congratulate SDC on their continued foresight.
"SDC is very much part of Northern Ireland's globally recognised expertise in the transportation and engineering sectors and I hope many more companies from Northern Ireland will take their example of broadening their horizons and exploring business and trade relationships within the international market," she added
Gavin Diamond, Managing Director SDC Parts and Service, said: "The opening of SDC Trailers' office in the UAEcomes afterstrong growth and the development of key strategic partnerships across the Middle East. In the last few months alone, our Parts and Service business has secured nearly€160,000(AED664,454) worth of business and we have astrongpipeline of trailer orders."
He added: "The region's rapid economic development, strategic position and enhanced regional logistics structures, make it such an obvious and exciting place to do business and we believe opening our offices here will be the key to taking us to the next level."
SDC has increased production output by 30% in 2014 following ongoing expansion at its four manufacturing plants. Building over 8,000 trailers per year, SDC Group turnover has risen sharply, projected to increase by €57 million (AED 236,711,742) to €220million (AED 913,605,297), following a number of sizeable orders.
