New Terminal Offers Easy and Reliable Solution for Portable PIN-based Transactions

PARIS - SchlumbergerSema, a business segment of Schlumberger Limited, today launched its MagIC X1000 DECT portable point-of-sale (POS) terminal. The new terminal communicates via the Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) network to offer fast and reliable on- and off-line transactions. The MagIC X1000 DECT terminal, which is the latest addition to the comprehensive range of SchlumbergerSema MagIC POS solutions, offers maximum performance and reliability, a high level of security and multi-application support.

The terminal's compact and practical design has been optimized for portability and all-round performance, and features a high speed, whisper-quiet printer and fast on-board charger within a single unit that fits easily into the palm of the user's hand. Its convenient size enables the terminal to be taken directly to the customer for inputting a secure personal identification (PIN) authentication code.

The MagIC X1000 DECT terminal enables both off and on-line card payments to be transacted more than 100 meters away from its docking station, making it a key tool for restaurants and other businesses that want to offer their customers flexible and secure capabilities for card payment. The new terminal is Europay MasterCard Visa (EMV) approved and compliant with the latest PIN entry security standards. It also has TCP/IP capabilities for secure payment.

"The MagIC X1000 DECT terminal combines guaranteed top level security with the functionality and convenience that is paramount for our service industry customers," said Eric Duforest, vice president, POS Terminals & Systems, SchlumbergerSema. "The market for POS terminals is developing fast, and we are confident that the new product will consolidate our lead in bringing innovative solutions to the growing portable payment market."

DECT is the digital wireless standard in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and a growing standard in the rest of the world for cordless telephones. The DECT technology used for the MagIC X1000 DECT terminal has been developed for data transmission only, and guarantees a reliability level that meets the highest expectations of today's portable POS users.
