The Egyptian Company for Mobile Services 'MobiNil" has obtained an official renewal of the ISO 14001. The certificate was awarded to MobiNil last year by TUV certification body of Germany for adopting and successfully implementing an environmental management system (EMS) that provides high quality & safe mobile service conforming to Egypt's safety regulations as well as to the international telecommunication standards which ensure maximum environmental protection for the local community.
The conclusion of the first surveillance audit, held by TUV Germany late July 2002, is that MobiNil's environmental management system (EMS) has been maintained with continual improvements in many areas where environmental programs are being carried out.
'Obtaining ISO 14001 renewal is a new achievement we are proud of, just as we were privileged last year for being the first telecom operator in Egypt and the Middle East to acquire the internationally recognized official statement", commented Osman Sultan, MobiNil's CEO.
In compliance with the environment management system (EMS), MobiNil has recently established an Environment Complaints Office with the responsibility of receiving and handling all health and environmental complaints related to the mobile industry.
Also in response to the requirements of the ISO 14001, MobiNil has installed the first artificial antenna tree in one of its Alexandria sites, thus becoming the first telecom operator in the Middle East to set an example for reconciling technology with the beauty of nature.
The new technology, originally applied in European countries as part of a new trend towards adding a beautiful touch to the environment, will help MobiNil install mobile stations at the locations with special nature or particular demands.
