Prince Alwaleed Sponsored 1st Saudi Film, 1st Saudi Lady Pilot & 1st Saudi Lady Jockey
HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding company received at his office in Riyadh the Saudi actor Mr. Fayez Al-Maliki, the main character in the Saudi film 'Menahi' and a forthcoming sequel. The meeting was attended Mr. Turki Shabana, General Manager of Rotana Khalijiyah and Executive Producer of the film, Mr. Ayman Halawani, General Manager of Rotana Studio and Mr. Ibrahim Al Badei, Manager of Corporate Communications Department at Rotana. During the meeting Prince Alwaleed said that he was pleased with the success of the film 'Menahi' and the reception it had received. His Highness congratulated Mr. Al Malki and the producers referring to the significance of the film for being the first Saudi film to be shown in the first cinemas in Saudi Arabia.
Prince Alwaleed commented: "Saudi Films and theatres arrived with Rotana's film Menahi. We will support the success and advancement of Saudi cinema within the framework of our culture and tradition. The launch of authorized films is an extension of our efforts to produce local films and sponsorship of the Jeddah Film Festival. We will keep driving for change on all fronts in Saudi society."
As an extension for this drive for change, Prince Alwaleed sponsored the first Saudi film, first Saudi lady pilot and first Saudi lady equestrian jockey, and currently employs a ratio of 65% ladies to 35% men in Kingdom Holding Company a first for a Saudi company.
The Prince donated the proceeds from 'Menahi' to the 4th Jeddah Film Festival that will be sponsored by Rotana chaired by Prince Alwaleed.
Moreover, during the meeting Mr. Halawani said that they were aiming to produce 3 Saudi films annually and discussed future Rotana film projects that will be eagerly awaited by local cinema fans. In addition, Mr. Shabana assured the Prince that all future potential film will be in line with Saudi culture and traditions. In conclusion to the meeting, Mr. Al Malki thanked Prince Alwaleed for his continuous support and said his success as an actor was more than he had anticipated. Rotana released the production of its Saudi film 'Menahi' for the first time in Saudi cinema's in Jeddah and Taif with a premier that took place on the second day of Eid Al Adha, 9th December 2008.
