Philips has again won prestigious recognition for its leadership in flat display technology by winning European Imaging & Sound Association (EISA) awards for two of its FlatTV sets - European High-End LCD TV, 2006-2007 for the Philips Cineos 37PF9731D, and European Green TV of the Year for the Philips 42PF7621D.
These latest EISA awards are, respectively, the eighth and ninth won by Philips for Flat TVs and Flat TV technologies in the ten years since Philips unveiled its first Flat TV in August 1996. The awards are also the I5th and I6th respective EISA TV titles won by Philips in the 14 years EISA has been holding its annual awards.
European High-End LCD TV, 2006-2007
In naming the Philips 37PF9731D Cineos Flat TV with Ambilight(TM) Surround high-end LCD TV of the year, the EISA judges have highlighted Philips' expertise in the emerging high definition TV market. The 37PF9731D delivers the ultimate HDTV viewing experience by applying several key Philips technologies such as Pixel Plus(TM) 3HD and Clear LCD(TM) combined with a true 1920x 1080-pixel LCD panel. EISA's award citation notes how the set "Impressive picture quality" with both HD and standard definition signals with the visual experience "Enhanced further by Philips' next-generation Ambilight Surround illumination". EISA judges also praised the set's user-friendly set-up procedure, noting that "Everybody can take advantage of the best performance this sophisticated television can offer" as a result.
European Green Television, 2006-2007
As part of its policy on environmental sustainability, Philips has committed its businesses to developing so-called 'green flagships' in each of its product ranges. One such example is the Philips 42PF762ID Flat TV, named European Green Television of the Year by EISA.
The EISA judges were impressed by this HD-ready plasma TV's very low power consumption "an impressive15% less than that of its nearest competitor for EISA's Green Award." EISA also praised the construction of the set, which allows for easy end-life disassembly, enabling recyclable components and other elements to be separated for processing or safe disposal.
Commenting on the awards, Reinier Jens, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Philips Consumer Electronics Region Europe, said: "The EISA judges have positively recognized our efforts in pushing the boundaries of the Flat TV viewing experience. Winning High End LCD TV of the Year is a huge endorsement for our approach to product design, especially in developing sets that maximize the benefits of HDTV. Winning Green TV of the Year is also a major endorsement to our commitment to creating TVs that will deliver great benefits at the end of their lives as much as they delivered a great viewing experience during usage."
