Abu Dhabi, 7 May 2012 - Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is hosting a conference 6th and 7th May 2012 on 'Energy: new research and topics on national pathways and globalization" in collaboration with Irice of the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) with the support of Total. Open to the public, prominent scholars, ministry representatives, researchers and leading specialists from the energy field from Europe and the UAE attended this conference and discussed issues related to energy and explored perspectives, such as the development of nuclear energy in France.
Analysing the present days challenges in reference to the industry evolution from 1945-2010, the conference highlighted contemporary stakes linked to energetic policies and explored several key research elements and innovations. A wide array of energy-related topics were examined such as supply and technologies, energy savings and efficiencies, as well as strategic economic policies implementation. The strong historical relations between the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and France during this period were also a main focal point of the discourse.

This conference is first of a series to come on history of technologies in a multidisciplinary approach from energy to telecom among other themes, organized by Pr. Pascal Griset from Sorbonne and Mr. Alain Beltran from National Center for scientific research.
In this first workshop, Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi welcomed several eminent speakers from the region as David Heard, Sultan AL-HAJJI - Vice president at Total UAE, Abdulla Mohammed Sharif, Head of Energy Sector at Ministry of Energy UAE, and speakers from France such as Gilles BELLEC from the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, and Pr. Pascal Chaigneau from Paris-Descartes and international relations advisor to the French navy.
Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi supports the UAE's economic diversification away from oil and gas, hence it customises unique courses to serve the country's imminent job market requirements. Nuclear Energy Law or Sustainable development specialization are part of Masters offered in Sorbonne Abu Dhabi in line with the emirate's preparation for the Post-Oil Era.
Sorbonne Abu Dhabi's cycle of public conference aims at supporting the community by keeping them informed on relevant matters concerning Abu Dhabi, UAE and the region.
