Muscat, Oman -3 June 2013: Experts in oil, gas and petrochemical sectors all met in Muscat today for the second annual Oman EPC Projects Summit at the Grand Hyatt, Muscat.Dr. Saleh Al Anboori, Director General of Petroleum Investments at the Ministry of Oil and Gas gave an overview of the Sultanate's plan for the future development of oil and gas infrastructure in relation to In Country Value (ICV).

This followed with a presentation from Dr Al Zeitoun, Director of Portfolio Solutions from Booz Allen Hamilton who discussed how to achieve contractual excellence in an EPC project can be achieved by focussing on the theory of contract realisation and measuring the benefits of understanding an EPC project. 

The summit explored key themes including:managing contracts and best practices, smart procurement strategies, project owner and EPC contractor relationship management, Local Community Contractor (LCC), ICV and risk management.

Over 80 international oil, gas, petrochemical and EPC industry experts joined key representatives from the Ministry of Oil and Gas, PDO, Oman Oil Company Exploration and Production, ORPIC, Technip, Punj Lloyd, Foster Wheeler, Worley Parsons, Bechtel,Galfar Engineering and Occidental Oman at the summit.

When asked about the quality management in EPC projects, Mohamed Daoud, Manager Projects Quality, Engineering and Major Projects at ADCO remarked, "The key challenges in executing critical and major projects are: project risks, technological problems and material delivery and guarantee of sources. Developing a project quality plan and reviewing the project matrix is essential in any EPC project."

The second day of the summit will focus on best practices case studies in EPC projects, through the perspective of experts including: Giovanni Orland, Project Director at Technip; Mohamed Daoud, Manager Projects Quality, Engineering and Major Projects at Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) and other key experts.

The pre and post-conference workshops, facilitated by the Project Management Institute (PMI), Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) and Kentz International will give delegates the chance to examine day-to-day challenges they face during the EPC project execution stage. Topics include: alternative procurement strategies, managing contractual risk, value engineering in EPC projects and optimising supply chain management.
