Officine Panerai is proud to maintain its position as Platinum Sponsor as well as official timekeeper of the 21st annual Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. The event is hosted by the Antigua Yacht Club in Antigua, West Indies, where, amid crystal-clear aqua seas and cloudless skies, a fleet consisting of many of the world's most magnificent ocean-going classic yachts, will gather for a week of racing and camaraderie. The event is recognized among the world's greatest classic yacht regattas, and has grown over the years, attracting an increasingly stunning compilation of vintage, Spirit of Tradition and J-Class yachts, as well as a fleet of Tall Ships.
Idyllic Caribbean sailing in quintessentially relaxed island style will once again distinguish this 21st year of the ACYR, which begins April 17 with the Concours d'Elegance contest. An extended racing schedule in 2007, featuring a fourth race day, was met with much enthusiasm and will continue to be a fixture this year. The "windward" course will again follow the traditional three race days, which in turn will be followed by the impressive Single handed race. The grand finale will be the Prize-giving ceremony on the evening of April 22nd.
The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta will for the third year, kick off the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. The Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge has evolved over the years, forming an increasingly comprehensive sequence of worldwide happenings, which are distinguished for joining together classic yacht owners and crews from all corners of the world. Following the ACYR, North American Events on the Panerai Classic Circuit in 2008 will be: The Robert H. Tiedemann Classic Yachting Weekend in Newport this June, Nantucket Opera House Regatta and Race Week in August, as well as the Museum of Yachting Classic Regatta in Newport during Labor Day weekend.
By lending its support to these important competitions, PANERAI enriches the events with new elements and excitement, and encourages the participation of yacht owners and enthusiasts around the world. Today PANERAI is one of the most prestigious brands in haute horlogerie and its history represents a proud example of research, innovation and tradition, as well as being irrevocably linked with great nautical exploits and the sea.
