The Canadian/local team of Webb Zerafa Menkes Housden (WZMH) and SSH International has been awarded the one-year infrastructure design consultancy contract on the estimated $3,500 million new Kuwait University campus in Shadidiyah. The group was awarded the work as an option to the campus masterplan contract it won in 2004 The infrastructure element, which is expected to total more than KD 200 million ($690 million) will be split into 12 packages, with the first contract, covering earthworks, expected to be tendered by the end of the year. The remaining tenders are all expected to be issued by the end of 2007. Tender documents have also been released for the contract to build the administrative services complex, the first building to be built on the campus development. Eight local contractors have until 19 September to bid for the project, which will house security and general facilities, the construction programme management and the new campus administration. SSH is the design consultant .

The prequalifiers are Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading Company, Alamiah Building Company, Alghanim International General Trading & Contracting Company, Burhan International Construction Company, Index Trading & Contacting Company, Industrial Building Construction Company, Mohamed Abdulmohsin Kharafi & Sons and Real Estate Construction & Fabrication Company (Recafco). Kuwait University is also close to selecting design consultants for the colleges of science, education and art. Awards on the three contracts are due by the end of September. The Australian/local team of Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) and KEO International Consultants is the project management consultant (PMC) for the campus.
