DUBAI – An incredible evening of music and lights illuminated Expo 2020 Dubai as one of Morocco’s most celebrated pop stars, Hatim Ammor, took to the Jubilee Stage on the World Expo’s first night.

Ammor captivated audiences with performances of distinctive songs that draw on his Moroccan heritage, including Alawal, Mchiti Fiha and Hsebni Tamaa. He also performed songs from his latest album, Bala Onwan, which topped the charts in North Africa.

Visitors danced the night away to rhythms that blended past and present, appealing to the tastes of Moroccans and Arabs from across the region. The musical styles varied, with songs such as Albak Yemchi Lhalo and Hasdouna infused with international pop influences.

Commenting on his show, Ammor said: "It is with great pride that I represent my beloved country at this exceptional mega-event in Dubai, which has welcomed a diverse range of international artists and singers."

He also expressed his delight at the large, interactive audience at the show, and his wishes that Expo 2020 will deliver further growth and prosperity to the UAE and the wider Arab world.

Ammor’s career began when he entered a singing competition on the Noujoum wa Noujoum programme, before entering and winning the Casting Star show. He is now one of the biggest-selling pop stars in Morocco, with singles such as Mchiti Fiha garnering more than 100 million views on YouTube, while his songs have collectively attracted upwards of 250 million views. Ammor also collaborated with Enrique Iglesias, Descemer Bueno, El Micha and RedOne for the Arabic version of hit international song Nos Fuimos Lejos.
