Dubai, UAE - 27 April 2016 - The hospitality design team at Dubai-based MMAC Design Associates was recently awarded contracts to provide interior design consultancy services on two new hotel projects in Kathmandu, Nepal.
One year after the worst earthquake in 81 years to hit the country, Nepal is seeing new private investment in its tourism infrastructure. MMAC was chosen to design several four-star properties for the Golyan Group, a leading private sector enterprise in Nepal with investments in real estate, trade, manufacturing, energy and services. MMAC Design Associates is appointed for the firm's upcoming Hyatt Place and Hilton Garden Inn, both 150-key hotels.
Having recently returned from a site visit, Mr Merieau remarked on the striking Nepalese natural beauty and the unique heritage of this mountain nation. "We expect to bring a modern interpretation of Nepalese art and architecture to our design," he noted. The interiors will be inspired by Kathamandu Valley's rich cultural tradition. Elements such as the widely found intricate wood carvings, omnipresent moulded clay bricks with local motifs, grey slate floors and white washed walls will provide an elegant back drop to carefully chosen contemporary furnishings. "I was particularly struck by the minute detail of the geometric and colorful paintings from the region's Thangka mandala artwork that could well take center stage as an inspirational feature in the reception," commented Mr Merieau.
While adhering to the stringent guidelines of these renowned international hotel brands, MMAC's team will be looking to bring to life the traditional Nepalese culture and reflect the majestic natural surroundings while offering guests a truly affordable luxury experience. The MMAC design team is well versed in bringing an authentic sense of place into a modern-day setting. These two additions to the tourism infrastructure in Nepal promise to bring exciting new options for the well-heeled traveler.
