18 hospitals/clinics across the Gulf host 'Wellness Day' by MetLife Alico - campaign includes free health check for the community at 11 hospitals/clinics and shopping centres in Dubai
10 November 2011 (Dubai, UAE): MetLife Alico, in conjunction with renowned medical providers in the Gulf - EHL (Emirates Healthcare Limited) and LifeScan part of Johnson & Johnson family of companies - is extending its Wellness Day campaign by offering free health checks to members of the public in Dubai, along with its own medical cardholders in the Gulf region, in support of World Diabetes Day (November 14th).
The 5-minute health checks are an opportunity to focus on the region's most pressing health problem - diabetes - and to screen for any signs of the disease. The Wellness Day health checks are provided free of charge to members of the public at the 11 selected hospitals, clinics and shopping areas across Dubai.
MetLife Alico cardholders and family members covered through their employers can also visit any of the 18 participating hospitals and clinics in the GCC. The health checks are provided on a walk-in basis with no appointment required, on Monday November 14th (between 10am and 2pm; the public access timings in Dubai vary - see below).

This is the fifth Wellness Day organised in 2011 by MetLife Alico as part of its campaign to highlight the vital importance of health screening, following successful events held earlier this year. The original pilot event in Dubai found that 40% of the participating visitors had an irregular health indicator that needed to be addressed. The 5-minute checks include blood sugar, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI), with a report issued immediately after the checks.
The health issues commonly revealed through the Wellness Days include hypertension, pre-diabetes and obesity, which are the main health challenges in the region. The Wellness Day in November coincides with World Diabetes Day and therefore focuses especially on these issues with the aim of helping the community understand the health and financial implications of some of the lifestyle choices and to encourage them to start taking better care of their health.
"Thanks to the generous support of EHL and LifeScan, we are very pleased to be able to extend this very successful Wellness Day campaign to members of the public in Dubai on this occasion, in support of World Diabetes Day," says Dr Shafiq, Medical Network Director at MetLife Alico. "Regular health screening is so important for the community and especially with the high incidence of potentially serious conditions, such as diabetes. Poor health generally has a serious impact on the family and wider community, and so regular health checks are essential to help protect both the health and financial wellbeing of families. This campaign is part of an evolving process of diabetes management plan that we are designing for our cardholders, in conjunction with LifeScan. This plan will cover different aspects for the control and treatment of diabetes and will emphasize lifestyle changes and patient compliance."
