Doha, Qatar - 13 May 2012: Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the development of Qatari nationals and future engineers as the platinum sponsor of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Young Members Activities programme being held in Doha, Qatar, from 13 - 16 May 2012.

The three day programme includes a series of workshops, seminars and panel sessions allowing experts, researchers and leaders of the oil and gas industry to network and to share technical and industrial information with high school students, university students and young engineers.

"Education, training and development of Qatari nationals are key priorities within Maersk Oil Qatar, and this latest initiative is another way in which we are contributing to the long-term sustainable development and continued growth of Qatar," explained Sheikh Faisal Al Thani, Deputy Managing Director of Maersk Oil Qatar.

"Opportunities like the Young Members Activities Programme provide an ideal platform for young Qatari engineers and professionals to continue developing their skills and knowledge, as well as enabling the exchange of ideas and perspectives," he added.  

The workshop is being held in conjunction with the SPE International Production and Operations Conference and Exhibition taking place at the Qatar National Convention Centre, from 14 to 17 May 2012.

Maersk Oil Qatar began operations in Qatar in 1992, when an Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) was signed with Qatar to develop the Al Shaheen Field in Block 5, offshore Qatar. Maersk Oil Qatar's most recent Field Development Plan (FDP2005) included the drilling of more than 160 production and water injection wells over a six year period. The plan also called for the construction and offshore installation of fifteen new platforms with accommodation and production facilities, which is now complete. Production from the field is around 300,000 barrels of oil per day.
