Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ), in partnership with Qatar's General Traffic Directorate, welcomed more than 3000 people to their exhibition tent in Darb Al Saai last week as part of GCC Traffic Week activities. The annual event seeks to build road safety awareness and encourage safe driving behaviour across the region.
Visitors of all ages took part in educational games and workshops to improve their road knowledge and benefited from one-to-one coaching from experienced instructors after a drive in a state-of-the-art driving simulator.
Officials from the Traffic Directorate praised Maersk Oil's contribution towards a successful GCC Traffic Week, which has now become a milestone annual event in the calendar of activities to support Qatar's National Road Safety Strategy 2013-2022.
Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, director of Qatar's Traffic Department said: "I congratulate Maersk Oil Qatar on its sponsorship and the range of activities which proved popular and effective, particularly among the younger generation, in encouraging positive road behaviours. Our partnership with MOQ has continued to successfully seed behaviour change at a grassroots level in the country. We look forward to many more successful events and programmes where we work closely with our partners to do more."
Lewis Affleck, managing director of Maersk Oil Qatar, said: " As a company we remain committed to supporting Qatar's National Vision 2030 through initiatives that will have a meaningful and positive impact on Qatari society for generations to come. I'm proud to see our partnership with the General Traffic Directorate is playing a key role in making Qatar's road safer."
Maersk Oil Qatar has a history of raising awareness about road safety in Qatar. In partnership with the Ministry of Interior they launched the One Second! national road safety brand together in 2013 and Students for Road Safety programme, which has since engaged over 6,000 young people through school visits and community events. While their sponsorship of the first International Traffic Medicine Association congress held in Doha in 2015 has been integral in bringing knowledge and approaches from successful road safety initiatives in Europe, to Qatar.
