LG Experiencing a 25% Higher Volume of Student Submissions Compared to Last Year

Dubai, UAE; May 18, 2011 - As the countdown to the regional finals for LG Electronics' Conceptualife 2011 kitchen design competition begins, students across the region will be excited to learn that the winner will walk away with a grand prize of a fully paid one-month internship with leading UAE-based design company.

X-Architects, an award winning regional interior design and architectural firm, will offer the LG Conceptualife 2011 winner the internship at its offices in Dubai. The design firm has a very strong internship programme, having hosted an average of 15 interns per year since 2004 from renowned universities including: Ohio State University, Ohio, USA; University of Toronto in Canada and several others.

Commenting on this partnership, K.W. Kim, Executive Vice-President, LG Electronics, MEA Region Representative said: "LG is very pleased to be able to include an internship with a leading regional design company as one of the prizes for its 2011 Conceptualife winner.

"X-Architects' portfolio and achievements across a number of well-known projects means they will add further to the importance Conceptualife has among design students in the region. This could be a turning point in the career of the Conceptualife 2011 winner who will gain valuable experience through the X-Architects internship programme and have the chance to learn and work with some of the best designers and architects in the region."

Weighing in on the internship opportunity, X-Architects Founder and Executive Chairman, Mr. Ahmed Al Ali, who is part of the three-person Conceptualife judging panel, said: "It is an honour to be selected by LG Electronics to host the winner of Conceptualife 2011 in our internship programme. The technology innovation giant is no stranger to award-winning designs, having received nine accolades at the I.F. (International Forum) and the red dot awards for excellence in design earlier this year."

The student who secures the top spot of LG Conceptualife 2011 will have the opportunity to work with X-Architects' team of designers on a research paper analyzing the modern living standards and customs of national families in the Gulf States.

"There is a trend for national families towards a more independent and modern lifestyle away from family-compounds, whilst holding onto traditional identity. This is a significant change in living styles and we are keen to involve the winning intern in the research process to learn more about how this manifests in home and community design," said Al Ali.

Winner of the 2010 Middle East Architect Awards 'Boutique Architecture Firm of the Year' and 'Principal of the Year', X-Architects has a solid client-base, including the likes of Al Qudra Holdings, Dubai properties, Zabeel Properties and others.

Under the theme of 'Green and Futuristic', Conceptualife 2011, LG's regional kitchen-design contest, is in its second year and will hold its grand finale on 30th May at DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. Two design student finalists from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Africa, Egypt and Turkey will present their creations to a panel of judges in the hope of winning the prestigious internship with X-Architects.

The judges will closely consider all the submissions and choose the top three designs for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. Winners will be judged on unique designs, innovative green features for appliances, utilization of space and appliance integration, environmental friendliness of home appliance material and finally, development practicality.

LG Conceptualife is open to all design students who wish to participate. To attend the final LG Conceptualife event, please call on +97150 6881090.
