Kuwait: School’s out – but for Kuwaiti students, vacation time could give them an experience of a lifetime as they embark on Alshaya’s annual Summer Internship Programme, which gives young people hands-on experience of the world of retail.

The internships are all about giving young people a taste of work in the private sector as they plan their future careers. Registration is underway for high school and university students interested in working with Alshaya for four weeks, starting on 1 July.

The popular internship initiative, which is run by Alshaya in partnership with Kuwait’s Manpower and Government Restructuring Programme (MGRP), will see students spending four hours daily in one of Alshaya’s stores, gaining an invaluable learning and development experience. Each student will work in one of the many leading international brands operated by Alshaya, including Starbucks, H&M, Mothercare, Debenhams, American Eagle Outfitters, Jack Wills, Victoria’s Secret, Next, Payless, Bath & Body Works, M.A.C, Pottery Barn, and KidZania.

During the four-week programme, the interns will get intensive experience in all aspects of store operations, including sales, promotions, customer service, merchandising and stock management – ideal preparation for those interested in a career in retail.

Hundreds of students participate every year in the Alshaya internship which is now in its eleventh year. The programme is testimony to the strong partnership between Alshaya and the MGRP and their shared commitment to support economic growth by developing national employment opportunities in the private sector.

“We are pleased to invite young Kuwaitis to register for the programme and get a new perspective on their future. Every summer, we look forward to hosting the summer internship programme in Kuwait and helping young Kuwaiti students reap the benefits of our developmental initiatives. The programme has been designed to develop their skills and provide more valuable insights into this dynamic retail industry,” said Mr Andrew Stotter-Brooks, Regional Learning and Development Manager at Alshaya.

Those interested in registering in the summer programme can visit http://www.mgrp.org.kw/ar/serv/Pages/STP_Main.aspx . The deadline for submissions is 9th June, 2018.
