Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Jigsaw Nursery, part of the Al Najah Education group, has been awarded the prestigious “Outstanding” rating by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), for substantially exceeding the expectations of the UAE’s education sector.

This leading British curriculum nursery is conveniently located in the heart of Abu Dhabi and prides itself on its high-quality, flexible childcare to children from 45 days to 4 years.  It combines the UK’s Early Years Foundation School (EYFS) framework with a StrongStart programme – its very own approach to school readiness. This programme is specifically designed to ease the transition of children from nursery into school. Jigsaw Nursery follows a child-led, ’in-the-moment planning’ approach that allows teachers to adjust the curriculum to the individual needs of the child.

ADEK’s biannual inspection examines the effective implementation of high-quality, early childhood education and care of schools and nurseries in Abu Dhabi. The performance standards measured, ranged from emotional support, classroom organization, instruction support, space and furnishings, personal care routines, learning activities to language and literacy.

The ADEK report praised the nursery for its positive relationships, respect and emotional support between children and teachers, alongside classroom organization as contributing factors to its ‘Outstanding’ rating.  Teachers were commended for the use of a variety of modalities, including auditory, visual, movements and materials, to effectively interest students and gain their participation. Jigsaw Nursery was complimented on the spacious outdoor area and the variety of resources available on campus. The Personal Care Routines report highlighted the consistent personalised interaction between teachers and children, while the Learning Activities report commended the variety of resources and learning centers at the nursery.  The wide range of words, appropriate to children’s ages and abilities, contributed to a high Language and Literacy score. The ADEK report further praised Jigsaw Nursery teachers for its in-depth understanding of the ‘in-the-moment’ planning approach.

Raza Khan, CEO of Al Najah Education, echoed the feedback and credits the success of the Nursery to its passionate and experienced early years practitioners. He congratulated the nursery for its initiatives to achieve this rating, while at the same time ensuring that it remained operationally safe and open during the Covid-19 pandemic. “In addition to Academic Performance, Health and Safety formed a pivotal part in the evaluation criteria.  Children's safety has always been of paramount importance to Jigsaw Nursery and the leadership team has continued to work closely with ADEK to ensure that its safety protocols remained in line with the regulations,” said Khan.

The nursery developed stringent safety protocols and created a dedicated drop-off and pick-up area that enabled staff to check every child and teacher’s temperature, and sanitize their shoes and bags even before entering their assigned bubbles. In addition to the sanitizing protocols, all children's temperatures are screened three times a day.  Adherence to the ADEK regulations and protocols enabled the nursery to remain operationally safe and open during the Covid-19 pandemic.
