Dubai : This month, leading KSA Facilities Management heavyweight, Initial Saudi Group announced that they have won the FM Cleaning contract for Riyadh Airport, despite stiff competition from at least five other FM companies. Initial Saudi Group have been appointed to take on the responsibility of all cleaning and janitorial services for Riyadh Airport, which comprises of three terminals (T1, T2 and T5 as well as two principal administration and support buildings and possibly a further two terminals that are currently under renovation, to be added later.

Riyadh Airport is the second largest airport after Jeddah, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is considered as the air gateway for the Kingdom.  There are approximately 40 Airlines that use the airport for scheduled passenger services and in 2017 it served 25 Million passengers, with anticipated future increases each year.

Initial was previously appointed the FM Cleaning contractor for Terminal 5 Riyadh, where they were awarded for their outstanding service example, comprehensive technical proposal and overall competitive value. They were contracted for T5 for an initial period of 1 year in 2016 before winning this three to five-year contract for what will eventually cover Terminals for the entire airport.

Airports can represent several challenges in the field of Facilities Management and can cover a multitude of services that can be quite subjective. From large areas to maintain, airport terminals becoming worn due to an increase in passenger traffic and with many of the airports across the GCC under construction, it is imperative FM companies have advanced and proactive systems of control in place to be able to respond efficiently and quickly to lift the load on the facilities, ensuring smooth operations and customer satisfaction.

Initial Saudi Group have approximately 650 staff in place to manage the FM Cleaning contract to include all Janitorial services and ancillary services, such as Parking attendants.

FM companies working within the aviation sector need to able to re-schedule and adapt their services to meet the requirements of airport’s needs. Facing challenges such as fluctuation in passenger flows, emergency events and ensuring risk mitigation that could include security or airfield incidents, flight delays and unscheduled arrivals. To combat these arising challenges Initial has a CAFM system that links and reports directly to the clients BMS (Buildings Management System). A critical part of service management is a responsive Help Desk
