The Irish company has recently developed and launched an innovative University-accredited programme tackling the high rate of diabetes in GCC region
Dubai: iheed, the Dublin-headquartered next-generation medical education provider, has opened its first Middle East office in Dubai, U.A.E.
The new office will further support its growing long-term partnerships with health ministries and medical specialty boards across the region.
The announcement was made during the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to KSA and the U.A.E led by Charlie Flanagan TD, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
In collaboration with St George’s, University of London, iheed recently launched a Post Graduate Diploma in Diabetes with professionals enrolled from Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and the U.A.E. The company has already delivered ground-breaking education programmes to over 25,000 healthcare professionals in the GCC and has received extremely positive feedback on the quality of the user-experience and the programme content.
Recognised as a global issue during World Diabetes Day, November 14th 2016, the Diabetes Programme was launched to address the single most critical healthcare challenge for the region. Diabetes affects over 20% of the population and accounts for more than 10% of health budget expenditure within the GCC region. As part of its unique delivery model, iheed is measuring and tracking educational outcomes, to improve performance and ultimately to deliver better care.
Welcoming the announcement Minister Flanagan said: “Today's announcement by iheed that it is opening its first Middle East office in Dubai is exciting news for the company, and a strong sign of their commitment to this region. iheed is a highly innovative company and a great example of the type of company Enterprise Ireland supports. I wish them every success with this expansion and look forward to working with them in the future".
Tom O’Callaghan, Chief Executive Officer, iheed, commented: ‘’we are delighted to be working closely with GCC ministries and governments, providing solutions directly to their doctors and particularly primary care team members. Our programmes appeal to busy healthcare professionals because they can undertake programmes without travelling or taking time off work. They gain the expertise of a global network of outstanding tutors, who share real-life experiences and international best practices. Our unique blended delivery model comprising programmes accredited by world-leading medical universities ensures the same or higher levels of quality compared to traditional post graduate programmes.
‘’From a ministry’s point of view our model is transformative. Traditional educational models will not meet the capacity development requirements in the region – iheed has emerged as a genuine thought-leader leveraging 21st Century technology solutions to get education where it’s needed, to tackle the growing burden of non-communicable diseases and other population health challenges.’’
Mr. Joe Breslin, Regional Director, S. Europe, Middle East, Africa & India at Enterprise Ireland said: “iheed’s new office in Dubai will further consolidate their position in the Middle East and is a testament to the success of their innovative programmes and commitment to their clients in the region. Enterprise Ireland’s teams in the Middle East and Ireland look forward to working with iheed as they develop and scale their business in this important market”.
The trade mission to KSA and the U.A.E, which has 37 Irish companies participating, continues until 15th November 2016.
