DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, March 23, 2009 - HP Middle East today continued to improve the user experience and simplify management of its industry-leading HP thin client portfolio with enhanced software choices for client virtualization customers.

Expanding its broad portfolio of thin client management software options, HP Device Manager 4.0, is included on every HP thin client and delivers simple, yet sophisticated centralized administration capabilities. In addition, HP TeemTalk terminal emulation software is also included, now providing even easier basic mainframe connectivity and communications with applications in the datacenter.

Also available for download today for HP thin client customers at no additional charge is HP RDP Enhancements, which enhances multimedia performance and USB device support for Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), the most commonly used display protocol in VMware View and Microsoft terminal services deployments.

"HP's continued technology leadership in thin client software and hardware has made HP the customer's first choice in thin computing," said Yan Bergeron, HP.JPG, Wokstations and Thin Clients Category Manager, PSG, HP Middle East. "The reliable performance, affordable security and simple manageability of HP thin clients make them the ideal access device to complete any client virtualization solution."

Thin client management gets even easier

The enhanced HP Device Manager 4.0 is just one of four choices in HP's broad portfolio of thin client management options, which also includes HP ThinState tools, HP Client Automation and Altiris Deployment Solution.  Available on every HP thin client at no additional charge to the customer, HP Device Manager delivers simple deployment, flexible integration, better automation, network scalability and Microsoft Active Directory support for quick and easy integration into IT environments. Key new features and enhancements of HP Device Manager include:

Quick installation in less than five minutes enables administrators to easily manage thin clients in a short amount of time with the simple and intuitive interface.

Through the additional settings wizard, HP Device Manager allows IT administrators to automatically apply settings to a thin client when a specific trigger is achieved - upon boot, on schedule or on demand. For example, automatic scheduling of device shut down/start up can conserve energy and manage company costs.

HP Device Manager has now enhanced its operating system imaging capabilities by supporting a utility operating system to facilitate imaging.  Pre-boot eXecution Environment (PXE) imaging will continue to be supported for "bare metal" provisioning of thin clients.

HP Device Manager's Virtual Network Computing (VNC) works in network address translated (NAT) environments, allowing remote workers to communicate with a gateway - or system that controls access to another computer - to initiate shadow requests and ensure the strongest security and access authentications. Gateways are also scalable to maximize local area network (LAN) bandwidth.

Additionally, HP Device Manager allows administrative access and remote login through an Active Directory/LDAP structure offering more flexibility. This increases the security offered by HP Device Manager and simplifies administrator management.

TeemTalk, terminal emulator software, which is included on most HP thin clients, provides access to host systems in the datacenter to access applications running on those systems.  TeemTalk offers a consistent look and feel, making it easy for customers to standardize on one terminal emulation product regardless of which operating system is used.

Now available for download at no additional cost to HP t5730 and t5630 thin client customers is, HP RDP Enhancement software, which delivers richer multimedia and USB experiences when deploying virtual computing solutions. HP RDP Enhancements provides multimedia acceleration and USB device redirection for customers standardized on HP Thin Clients using the RDP who want to improve the end-user computing experience for employees while maximizing the number of users per server.

HP RDP Enhancements provides users with a single-logon, full-screen virtual desktop experience for VMware View and Microsoft Terminal Services using a variety of session brokers. Users simply log in to their virtual client session to enjoy real-time, network-based multimedia content with full stereo audio - such as interactive training, demos and live webcasts - across a variety of multimedia formats. HP RDP Enhancement software will be available for HP Linux thin client customers in the near future.

HP thin client customers can download HP RDP Enhancements from the HP Web site. For additional information about HP software solution thin clients and client virtualization, visit www.hp.com/go/vce.
