Cairo, Egypt: Hilton, one of the largest hospitality companies in the world, is further demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability by entering into a partnership with Tagaddod, a cutting-edge renewable energy and waste management company specialized in making biodiesel from used cooking oil. A total of 15 Hilton hotels in Egypt will participate in the program: Hilton Alexandria Corniche, Hilton Alexandria Green Plaza, Hilton Alexandria King’s Ranch, Hilton Cairo World Trade Center Residences, Hilton Cairo Zamalek Residences, Hilton Hurghada Long Beach Resort, Hilton Hurghada Resort, Hilton Marsa Alam Nubian Resort, Hilton Pyramids Golf, Hilton Sharks Bay Resort, Hilton Sharm Dreams, Hilton Sharm El Sheikh Fayrouz Resort, Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort, Ramses Hilton and Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa.

The 15 participating Hilton hotels are expected to provide Tagaddod with more than 1564 Kilos of used cooking oil every month. The company will then use the oil to produce biodiesel and crude glycerin with an average 1330 kilos expected to be produced in the same day in the factory, comprised of 85% used oil. The biodiesel and crude glycerin will be exported to be used by international waste management companies in France, the United Kingdom, Italy and the Netherlands.

Renewable energy is already delivering electricity to millions of people worldwide, providing and sustaining hundreds of thousands of jobs, and offering the opportunities of a growing multibillion-pound market. Tagaddod operates an ISCC certified production facility, which produces biodiesel from used cooking oil (UCOME). Biodiesel is a green fuel that is used in conventional diesel engines, which can directly substitute for or extend supplies of traditional petroleum diesel. To ensure high quality product, Tagaddod checks the quality of the oil it receives. Oil with impurities of more than 5% is deemed unacceptable for their production of biodiesel and crude glycerin. The company is exploring the possibility of expanding their production to recycle used cans and plastic bottles in the future.
