MUSCAT - The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) will offer a series of tailor-made management short-courses in March and April. "In a time of increased global competiveness, companies need to invest in continuous education for their employees. For the first time our university will offer tailor-made management short courses for professionals in Oman designed by experienced lecturers from our German parent-university RWTH Aachen University," said Professor Dr. Burkhard Rauhut, Rector of GUtech. Throughout the coming months seminars on Introduction to Process Management, Project Management, Six Sigma Management, Quality Management will be conducted. The language of instruction is English. At the end of each course all participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
During the one-day seminar Process Management on 14 March 2011, participants will study the combination of planning and monitoring the performance of a process. Value Stream Mapping and Process Structure Matrix are efficient methods to synchronise and harmonise value- adding processes throughout the company. These are both commonly used methods of business process improvement. It can be defined as a method by which managers and engineers seek to increase the understanding of their company's development efforts for the sake ofimproving their efforts. During the seminar the participants will become acquainted with the utilisation of Value Stream Mapping and Process Structure Matrix.
The tailor-made short course in Project Management on 29 March 2011 will help employees to deliver the project on time and on budget. Project management methods can help in the planning and managing of all types of tasks, especially complex activities. During the one-day seminar, the participants become acquainted with the basic tools of project management. An estimation of the improvement potential regarding costs, time and quality has to be performed to initiate value-adding projects. By the use of tools like stakeholder analysis or the RSACI-Matrix, it is demonstrated how to set up projects and how to staff them. The so called Six Panel Sheet is used to control the project in a proper way. The project conclusion and efficient knowledge management are the final steps of a project.
The Introduction into Six Sigma is a two-day seminar, on 29 March and 30 March 2011, for continuous and sustainable improvement of products and processes as well as for their solid design. Strategies that are based on a profound understanding of the processes as well as statistical analyses of quantitative measurements will be applied. Six Sigma strategies can be applied to processes in different departments: in manufacturing, planning, development as well as administrative processes.
During the one-day seminar Introduction into Quality Management on 19 April 2011, the participants will become acquainted with quality management tools and methods and learn how to implement them within their company. They focus on identifying problems and eliminating them in order to work more efficiently. The following questions will be discussed during the seminar: How can product and process quality be continuously optimized within a company? Which methods can be used, and how can they be implemented in the production process?
The short courses are tailor-made for engineers and employees in the field of engineering in the following sectors: Chemical/petrochemical, construction, engineering, manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, energy/power and telecommunications.
