Dubai International Jewellery Week Design Competition to Identify Rising Stars
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 12 September 2011: Jewellery designers from across the Middle East will have an opportunity to shine as entries open for Dubai International Jewellery Week's third annual Jewellery Design Awards. The much anticipated industry competition gives professional and amateur designers the platform to explore their creativity and enter their original jewellery design submissions by 15 October 2011.
Organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre, the competition will recognise outstanding professional designers and jewellery companies as well as foster and encourage the creative talents of amateur designers and students. The best designs will be crafted and displayed at Dubai International Jewellery Week from 10 - 13 November 2011, and the winners will receive industry recognition, trophies and participation in a jewellery course run by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
The competition is open to anyone in the Middle East over the age of 17 and is divided into three categories; amateurs and students; professionals; and companies. Entrants can submit a maximum of three designs from a choice of six jewellery types (ring, necklace, pendant, brooch, bracelet, earrings) within various themed categories. The categories are broad, allowing designers to unleash their creativity and demonstrate their design prowess, and include awards for the most innovative design, best bridal jewellery and best Arabic and Asian influenced work.
"With Dubai International Jewellery Week we bring together the largest selection of premium jewellery companies and manufacturers in the region, but we also want to enrich the industry further by rewarding excellence in design through the Jewellery Design Awards 2011. Our aim is to highlight outstanding design talent among established companies and professional designers, but also support the next generation of jewellery designers to establish themselves within the industry," said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of Dubai International Jewellery Week.
Giving jewellers and professional designers a further chance to shine, the Jewellery Design Awards 2011 also crowns the designer of the year, the most innovative company, and selects the best jewellery marketing campaign.
Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of leading industry professionals from GIA, National Institute of Vocational Studies, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, Dubai Women's Establishment and Arabian Woman magazine.
The judges will assess entries based on the originality of the designs, the creativity and innovation that is embodied in the design and the wear-ability of the finished product. Submissions from companies will also be judged on their ability to understand and reflect consumer tastes in their designs.
