Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Updates Physicians with the Latest Knowledge in Paediatric Critical Care
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), managed by Cleveland Clinic, provided the latest knowledge in paediatric critical care patients over the weekend as part of its exclusive Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS) course.
The two-day PFCCS course, took place 17-18 January at the Advanced Skill Program Training Centre in Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, addressed the fundamental management principles for the 24-hour period following resuscitation of a critically ill paediatric patient, until transfer or appropriate critical care consultation can be arranged.
"The first 24 hours of management and care following the resuscitation of a critically ill paediatric patient is crucial and forms a key component of advanced life support. Most complications occur during the first 24 hours of resuscitation because multiple organ systems can be affected, and early recognition of a seriously ill child with early intervention can shorten hospitalisation and save lives," said Dr. Ahmed Taha, Intensive Care Physician, SKMC, and organiser of the PFCCS course.
"Post-resuscitation care will benefit from the development of a system-wide plan for proactive treatment, especially in the cases of paediatric patients where there is a current need," Dr. Taha added.
SKMC offers the PFCCS courses exclusively in the UAE as a registered centre by the US Society of Critical Care Medicine, a non-profit multidisciplinary, multispecialty international organisation dedicated to ensuring excellence and consistency in the practice of critical care.
"SKMC is committed to implementing SEHA's vision of continuously improving patient care according to recognised international standards. This course brings the best practice to the region and allows us to maintain a lead in the paediatrics discipline," said Dr Hubert Hon, Chair of Critical Care Medicine and Consultant Paediatric Intensivist at SKMC.
SKMC, managed by Cleveland Clinic, is part of the SEHA HealthSystem and owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
