Welcare Hospital, The City Hospital and all EHL clinics to mark World Heart Day by providing free cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI tests
Dubai, UAE, 21 September 2010: UAE residents will be able to have their health examined for free at seven EHL centres across Dubai on 25th and 26th September, 2010.
The complimentary health check-ups, which include random cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) tests, are in acknowledgement of World Heart Day, an initiative of the World Heart Federation and the World Health Organisation. The annual event is marked in more than a hundred countries.
Heart disease, responsible for 22% of fatalities in the UAE, is the leading cause of death in the country. Worldwide, it claims a staggering 17 million lives each year. Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases include high blood pressure, high cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking and inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, as well as being overweight and/or physically inactive.
"The aim of the testing is to provide people in the UAE with a better understanding of their own risk of cardiovascular disease. Through awareness, a simple plan of action can be developed to improve the condition of their cardiac health," says Dr. Pietie Loubser, Chief Clinical Officer at EHL.
