Highly motivated to participate in the competitions of the festival and events
Western Region - The fifth day of the festival of the Liwa 2011saw a well deserved winning for the competitors in in "Khunaizi," and "Boumaan" categories in the festival's main contest "Mzainat Al Rutab", as the final results of the two categories were announced by the judge panel following the inspection of the farms. Visitors expressed their interest in knowing more about date fruit, name of various types,methods of cultivation, and stewardship, and the prominent role it plays in the daily life of people in the region.
Khamis Ali Al Marar won the first place in the Khunaizi category and was awarded 125 thousand dirhams, and Salham Hrmous Mazrui second place and was awarded 100 thousand dirhams, and Nasser Nukhaira Al Kkhaili came in third place and was awarded 75 thousand dirhams, Salma Mohammed wife of Rashid Khamis Sabousi in fourth place and Saif Thamer Al Marar came in fifth place.
Mansoor Ali Mazrui came in first place in the Boumaan category and was awarded 125 Thousand dirhams, Al Abda Ali wife of Mohammed Saeed Al Marar in second place and was awarded 100 thousand dirhams, and Kumasha Saif wife of Nasser Nukhaira Al Khaili in third place and was award 75 thousand dirhams, and Salem Saeed Marar came in fourth place, and Ahmed Moalla Al Marar in Fifth place.
Mr. Obaid Khalfan Mazrui member of the Organizing Committee, Director of Liwa Date Festival said that participants are keen to provide the best of their farms and took into account the conditions set by the Committee, which reflects the high quality products of Liwa and the western region in particular and the UAE in general.
He explained that the competition requires that dates must be locally produced during the 2011 season, must be up to 50% Ratab and in suitable ripeness with no more than one type for each category in one participation is allowed. Al Ratab must be free of infections, parasites or insects or their eggs and waste and free of apparent defects. It mustn't have unusual smell or taste, free of metal or sand impurities, of a suitable and acceptable size and the participating weight must be 4 - 6 kg in single type categories
Al Mazrui expressed his happiness of the competitions popularity in particular and the festival in general terms. Entries in lemons category have been submitted by competitors who came from different parts of the country. The results will be announced in the following day.
The festival, which is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), includes many interesting events, in addition to "Mzainat Al Rutab", the festival main competition, and these events include
The traditional market, which boasts about 160 outlets showcasing traditional industries, products and handicrafts made from palm and dates, in addition to children tents where diverse heritage and popular contests take place. The festival, also, will include a number of heritage shows and popular games, as well as the educational sessions which aim to spread awareness about the importance of the UAE heritage and highlight the features of this heritage. It will include also the 'tastes of tradition' culinary competition.

Aldahra agricultural company plans to expansion in the production of feed, and provide the local market by the opening of a new branch of the company in the Republic of Romania, where it will be planting large tracts of land with certain types of feed required for the local market.
Alaa Saidh, director of operations said that with the opening of the new branch of the company in Romania, the number of countries where the company is investing in will become 6 countries including USA, Spain, Egypt, Pakistan, Namibia, in addition to Romania.
The Company is showcasing in the Liwa Date Festival of various products including dates such as Khunaizi, Khallas, Sultana and Lulu. it is also showcasing a wide range of organic products, including vegetables, fruits, dairy and organic cheese.
A dish of organic pomegranate
Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Shalaweeh presented a dish of organic pomegranate to the Liwa Date Festival from his farm in Zayed City, the initiative aims to encourage farmers in the region to diversify their agricultural products and add new varieties with high nutritional value.
The gift was well received and the festival management confirmed its commitment to enhance the agricultural sector in the western region and to encourage farmers to develop their production.
