Leading oilfield service company Expro International Group PLC ("Expro Group" or "Expro") has won a prestigious RoSPA* industry sector Occupational Health and Safety Award for 2006.
The company has been named as the winner of RoSPA's Oil, Gas and Water Industry Sector Award this year, beating off strong competition from several major players in the oil and gas and utilities sectors. The success follows last year's achievement when Expro won a RoSPA health and safety Gold Award for its global health and safety performance.
Expro will receive this year's award at a special ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on Thursday, May 11. The award ceremony coincides with the staging of the Safety & Health Expo 2006, the UK's premier health and safety work exhibition.
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager said: "Expro has demonstrated how seriously it takes health and safety management and is a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following its lead by providing a positive example."
Expro Group HSEQC Manager Jim McQueenie said: "Since 2000, Expro has actively been pursuing a company-wide step change in Health and Safety performance in all its global locations. Staff are expected to achieve the same standards of safety wherever we operate, despite working in many challenging and arduous environments."
He continued: "Our safety policy and expectations are very clear and employees are challenged to identify and resolve barriers to safety improvement. We invest heavily in safety training, competence and facilities. Following this plan has resulted in a complete change of safety culture and an 80% reduction in lost time injury frequency over five years."
Expro Chief Executive Officer Graeme Coutts commented: "We are proud to have won the RoSPA Oil and Gas Sector Award as it confirms that, in an industry which prides itself on the importance of safety performance, we have attained a standard that is clearly recognised as outstanding."
