Sustainability is one of the UAE bid's sub-themes and a key area of focus for Empower

Dubai, UAE; September 4, 2013: Empower, the leading district cooling provider in the Middle East, has announced its support of the UAE's bid to host World Expo 2020 in Dubai with the final vote just weeks away.

Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO, Empower said: "Empower is extremely proud to support the UAE's bid to host this historic global event and Dubai is uniquely positioned to host an international event of this scale. As a bridge between East and West and a gateway to emerging markets, Dubai is the best candidate to welcome traders, visitors and representatives from across the globe.

As Empower continues to focus on finding sustainable solutions to conserving energy and water, it has a strong link to sustainbility which is one of the UAE bid's sub-themes. The other two sub-themes are opportunity and mobility.

"Should Dubai be successful, I would expect to see rapid development across the city in preparation to host the event. We hope that Empower will be an important part of the development to make Dubai as sustainable and environmentally-friendly a city as possible to welcome the world to Expo 2020 in Dubai," bin Shafar added.

If successful, Dubai will become the first city in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region to host a World Expo. With one-third of the world's population living within a four-hour flight of the UAE and more than 57 million passengers travelling through Dubai International Airport in 2012, Dubai is strongly positioned to welcome the world in 2020 and showcase all the emirate has to offer.

Dubai is competing against three other cities to host Expo 2020. The winning city will be announced on November 27th in Paris following a vote by the 167 member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions, the intergovernmental organisation in charge of overseeing the calendar, bidding, selection and organisation of World Expos.
