Luxury resort offers lifetime stay to hole-in-one player in the $2 million tournament

Emirates Palace is set to host Golf's most popular players led by Ryder Cup star Colin Mongomerie, Retief Goosen, Sergie Garcia and Christ DiMarco during the 2nd Annyal Abu Dhabi Golf Championship from January 18 to 21, held at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Abu Dhabi's iconic luxury resort signed up as Platinum Sponsor for the UAE's prestigious $2 million golf tournament, which features a spectacular field of players that also include Sweden's number one Henrik Stenson, Australian Order of Merit winner Nick O'Hern, and European Order of Merit winner Irishman Padraig Harrinton.

"We are delighted to be chosen as the tournament's official hotel. This is a spectacular opportunity to showcase the generous and warm hospitality of Abu Dhabi and Emirates Palace," said Noel Massoud, General Manager, Emirates Palace. "We are proud to be associated with this world class golf event and we look forward to hosting the participants, enabling them to relax as they prepare for what is expected to be a highly competitive tournament."

Massoud also revealed that for the first time Emirates Palace is giving away a lifetime stay package to the player who scores a hole-in-one, a tough feat to accomplish in a challenging course. "The lifetime stay enables the lucky winner to an annual exhilarating three-night package at our luxurious suites, as well as outstanding leisure and relaxation facilities for an entire lifetime. This special package has been created specifically for the tournament and cannot be obtained anywhere else."

As a Platinum Sponsor, Emirates Palace will also have the opportunity to field a team for the pre-event Pro-Am tournament, which will consist of a VVIP guest from the hotel and an amateur player. "We're also excited to showcase our skills during the Sponsor Golf Day, and some of our players in the hotel are eagerly preparing for the chance to compete against the tournament's sponsors," Massoud added.

Sponsoring high profile international events is part of the Palace's strategy not only to boost tourism in Abu Dhabi, but also to reach out to prospective hotel guests in Europe and Asia. "The inaugural tournament attracted over 17,500 spectators and live TV coverage reached more than 120 million homes in 28 countries. We expect to reach a lot more this year. Moreover, I am very confident that the players our international ambassadors spreading the word about their experience in our hotel, thereby strengthening our position to achieve our growth targets in 2007," he continued.

In addition to Emirates Palace, the championship has attracted other high profile sponsors including: Etihad Airways and Aldar as Diamond Sponsors; Standard Chartered Bank as a Platinum Sponsor; Nissan, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Omega and Xerox as Gold Sponsors. Gulf News and Middle East Golfer are Official Newspaper and Official Magazine respectively.
