Dubai, 13th August, 2006: Traditional architectural faades will give Culture Village a distinctive insight into the history of the Gulf and the rich heritage of Dubai.

Developed by Dubai Properties, a member of Dubai Holding, the AED 50 billion landmark project will feature layouts of traditional Arabian towns with clustered edifices separated by narrow shaded alleyways.

The architectural portico of the buildings will include decorative details on the walls, doors and windows in the form of carved wood and shaped metal, showcasing the inherited art of local carpenters and blacksmiths and will also be integrated into the structural design of the buildings

Hashim Al Dabal, CEO of Dubai Properties, said: "Preserving the arts, crafts and the distinctive architecture of the Arab world remains a core priority of Dubai Properties at Culture Village.

"Culture Village provides the ideal opportunity to showcase UAE's distinguished and typical architectural heritage, particularly of the Gulf region. Its design is inspired by the heritage sites of Bastakiya and Shindaga, including the Dubai Museum, found below the 180-year old Al Fahidi Fort in Bur Dubai, and Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum's House, an ideal example of old-style Middle Eastern architecture."

Traditional wind towers (barjeel), cobble stone walkways, unique sculptures, and waterways criss-crossed with bridges will add to the old-world ambience of Culture Village.

Located over 40 million square feet in the historic district of Jadaf, Culture Village will comprise residential, commercial and retail zones. It will include an amphitheatre for live performances and international cultural festivals, an exhibition hall and museums displaying local and international art, as well as a shipyard for traditional dhow builders.

The freehold development that was launched earlier this year is scheduled for completion in 2008.
