In support of Sheikha Manal's role as Dubai Cares Ambassador

Annual Walkathon event by Dubai Cares will promote children's access to quality primary education in developing countries

Dubai: 18 February, 2012 - In support of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum role as Dubai Cares ambassador in the field of girls' education, yesterday Dubai Women Establishment and Dubai Ladies Club participated in Walk for Education 2012 organised by Dubai Cares, by joining thousands of Dubai residents in a 3km walk along Jumeirah Beach Road.

DWE & DLC has took the initiative to invite all employees from various government departments and club members to participate, and more than 200 women together with DWE & DLC employees volunteered their time to this annual walkathon that aimed to highlight the importance of primary education in breaking the cycle of poverty and raise awareness of issues that prevent children in developing countries from accessing quality primary education. The event also presented a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to volunteer their time, enjoy fun activities with family and friends as well as make new friends.

On the occasion, Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, said, "Guided by the inspiring vision of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, UAE; in attention to humanitarian and social issues, and to enhance the image of the UAE in achieving the objectives of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, which are universal primary education, gender equality and empower women. In addition, Dubai Women Establishment is always keen to participate in charity and social initiatives and communication with the society in various issues.

HH Sheikha Manal has played an important role since the launch of Dubai Cares, she is the Ambassador of the campaign in the area of girls' education by giving them the opportunity for success and progress. She has led a number of events that helped to support education, and in 2007, Her Royal Highness visited Yemen to look on the educational needs in Yemen and to identify the suffering of the girls in that country, and the difficulties that hinder their access to basic education, in addition to her generous donation of One Million Dirhams to support education programs for girls in Yemen through UNICEF and its representative office in Sana'a.
