With the price of petrol on the increase across the Middle East region, fuel economy, traditionally a minimal factor in the vehicle purchase making decision, is becoming a more significant consideration for the region's drivers.
Through the application of intelligent technology, the DaimlerChrysler Group's advanced new Multi-Displacement System (MDS), now a standard feature on the majority of HEMI 5.7L V8 engines, can improve fuel economy by up to 20%, cleverly combining the power and capability of DaimlerChrysler's HEMI V8 with the fuel economy of a less powerful engine.
Seamlessly alternating between smooth, high fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed, and V8 mode when more power from the 5.7L HEMI engine is demanded, the MDS optimises fuel economy when V8 power is not required without any sacrifice of vehicle performance or capability.
Customers don't have to drive in any specific way to enjoy the fuel economy improvement delivered by the MDS, but there are a number of ways to get the most out of it;
Keeping your speed to 105kmh or below allows the MDS to maximise the use of four cylinder mode - likewise, using cruise control, which helps to maintain a steady speed, and steady throttle use also allow the HEMI to run on four cylinders for longer periods of time.
Accelerating more gradually also contributes towards increased fuel economy, and the driver is assured of full HEMI V8 power whenever it's needed.
The Chrysler Group's MDS is standard with the 5.7L HEMI on most Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles available in the Middle East, including the Chrysler 300C, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee. It will also feature on the eagerly anticipated Dodge Charger and Jeep Commander models that are scheduled for launch in the Middle East during November and December this year.
It is estimated that globally, the addition of MDS to HEMI equipped Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models will save more than 60 million gallons of fuel each year through to the end of 2007.
"The DaimlerChrysler Group was the first automobile manufacturer to offer modern, high-volume vehicles, SUV's and pick-ups with cylinder deactivation" said Trent Barcroft, Vice President, Director, DaimlerChrysler Middle East. "MDS is just one of the exciting new technologies to be integrated into the dynamic new breed of Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles - it is totally inline with our commitment to the environment, and a prime example of the enthusiastic commitment to product innovation that runs throughout the DaimlerChrysler Group."
