Computers & Structures Inc. President Ashraf Habibullah illustrates high-tech features associated with the use of ETABS, the world's leading structure and earthquake engineering software

May 16, 2006

Compusoft International, a leading provider of integrated IT, CAD/Engineering and project management solutions in the UAE, organized today (Tuesday, March 16, 2006) an educational seminar on innovative technological solutions for high-rise building design at the Dubai Municipality City Hall, in association with Dubai Municipality and Computers & Structures Inc. (CSI), the world leader in the development of innovative software for structural and earthquake engineering.

Compusoft International is the exclusive authorized distributor of CSI solutions in the Middle East, supplying CSI's industry-leading solutions such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000 and associated CSI products.

The seminar was opened by Ashraf Habibullah, President & CEO of Computers & Structures Inc., Eng. Essa Al Haj Al Maidoor, Assistant Director General for Planning and Building Affair, Dubai Municipality, Eng. Moawya A. Omar, Head of Structural Engineers Unit, Building Department, Dubai Municipality and C. J. Ajay Kumar, Chairman & CEO, Compusoft International. Titled 'Tall Building Design with ETABS', the event comes against the backdrop of burgeoning skyscrapers in the UAE and amidst stepped up efforts by the UAE authorities to ensure that all new buildings in the country are earthquake-proof and subscribe to building safety norms.

Essa Al Haj Al Maidoor welcomed the audience and organizers on the behalf of Dubai Municipality and said, "Even as Dubai is experiencing a construction boom and high-rises are coming up across the city, it has become most important to ensure that there is absolutely no laxity when it comes to the vital issue of building safety. Developers must unfailingly bring their structures up to speed with the latest building technology, and adopting proven solutions such as ETABS and SAFE will be an ideal measure to ensure that buildings are sturdy enough to withstand any rigor."

Ashraf Habibullah said: "We have been traveling around the world seeking to educate the structural engineering community on state-of-the-art building analysis and design software such as ETABS. Today, with users in over 150 countries, CSI continues the tradition of leadership with its current generation of Windows based structural analysis and design software. The intuitive physical object based graphical user interfaces, powered by targeted special purpose analysis and design algorithms are redefining standards of integration, productivity, and technical innovation."

"The seminar in Dubai is in keeping with this strategy, and has been designed to enable structural engineers to increase and widen their scope of knowledge in this specific area. CSI has remained a global leader in developing innovative software for structural and earthquake engineering for over 3 decades, and the structures of most of the tallest buildings in the world including the Burj Dubai are designed using CSI software," added Habibullah.

The seminar focused on how to design structure and earthquake engineering using the industry-leading ETABS and SAFE solutions, and highlighted a wide range of new innovative concepts and techniques that are redefining standards of acceptability and productivity in structural and earthquake engineering. The seminar also covered practical details associated with the use of ETABS for high-rise building design. Among the key topics addressed were 'Powerful object-based modeling', 'Multi-storey steel and concrete frame design and optimization', and 'Creep and shrinkage analysis'.

C. J. Ajay Kumar, Chairman and CEO, Compusoft International, said, "With ever-more high-rises dotting the skyline of the UAE and other Middle East countries, implementing innovative software for structural and earthquake engineering has become crucial to ensuring the safety and sturdiness of buildings. CSI offers the most sophisticated software for the analysis and design of civil structures, and their solutions such as ETABS and SAFE have today become industry standards. We are planning to follow up this seminar in Dubai with similar ones in other regional countries as well, to promote these pioneering solutions throughout the Middle East."

Over the years, Compusoft International has built a reputation as the premier regional provider of IT, engineering and project management solutions. Memory Computers and Cambridge Educational Institute are the subsidiaries of Compusoft International. The group's client portfolio features a host of high-profile names, including ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), ADCO (Abu Dhabi Onshore Oil Operating Company), Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Municipality, DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority), WS Atkins, Billfinger & Berger Construction, Halcrow International, GASCO (Abu Dhabi Gas Industries) and Al Habtoor Group.

ETABS is the world's leading structure and earthquake engineering software. Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Municipality and Nakheel have all standardized ETABS as well as other CSI solutions such as SAFE and SAP2000.  Sharjah Municipality and Public Works Department of Doha, Qatar have also confirmed their interest to standardize these products.
