Best March retail sales since 2007

Sales of Eighth Generation Malibu continue to perform strongly

March was second best sales month ever for Tahoe in the Middle East

DUBAI - Chevrolet dealers sold a total of 6,184 Chevrolet vehicles in the Middle East in March, up 28 percent year-on-year, and recorded their best March retail sales since 2007.

Chevrolet retail sales, those to individual customers, rose 39 percent year-on-year in March to 4,539 vehicles, while fleet sales climbed 4 percent month-on-month to 1,645 units.

Sales of Chevrolet passenger cars jumped an impressive 46 percent year-on-year in March as the eighth generation Malibu continued its record breaking sales, while crossovers, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-ups rose by 19 percent, boosted largely by sales of the Tahoe full-size SUV. Total Chevrolet sales were up 6 percent month-on-month from February.

The biggest year-on-year jump in sales came from Saudi Arabia, Chevrolets' largest market in the Middle East, where figures soared 42 percent to 2,502 vehicles.

The eighth generation Malibu continues to perform well in 2013 as dealers sold 824 cars in March this year compared with 86 in March 2012. Sales more than quadrupled quarter-on-quarter to 2,502.

"The Chevrolet brand performed impressively in the Middle East last month and during the first quarter of the year. Looking ahead for the rest of the year, I expect the momentum to continue with three major launches - the Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Silverado," said John Stadwick, President and Managing Director of General Motors Middle East.

"The eighth generation Malibu has proved extremely popular with our customers in the region since its launch in May last year. I am confident our Chevrolet brand will continue to boost the region's sales going forward 2013."

The Chevrolet Tahoe full-size SUV, long revered in the Middle East for its capability and dependability, combined with a luxury interior and a host of advanced safety features, performed particularly well in March. Dealers recorded their second best sales month in the region ever, as customers opted to buy one of the industry's best value and safest SUVs.

Dealers sold a total of 2,414 Tahoes in the region and a record 2,042 in Saudi Arabia.
