Bapco and EMC have recently signed an agreement by which Bapco has selected EMC next generation data protection solutions to avail the benefits of a centralized, tapeless backup environment. Bapco has deployed EMC Data Domain systems to create the backup, archiving and recovery capabilities to effectively manage future growth and to create enterprise-ready, agile and highly scalable data protection architecture. The tapeless infrastructure allows Bapco to improve backup storage utilization, drive backup and recovery performance while achieving significant cost savings and simplifying administration.

The new solution also enables Bapco to successfully create a centralized, tapeless infrastructure that alleviated the organization from managerial and cost complexities associated with the limitation of tape-based architecture. The new deduplication capabilities also meant that the company could look forward to better backup storage utilization and reduce the overall costs associated with data protection and recovery capabilities. The technology overhaul helped BAPCO cut back on resources needed to engage in time consuming service and maintenance tasks in addition to manual restore operations associated with verifying tape-based data backups. Having successfully deployed industry-leading data protection architecture, Bapco has been able to improve backup and recovery Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while restoring confidence in the organization's ability to restore critical data and applications.

Commenting on this occasion, Bapco's General Manager - Finance & IT, Mr. Mohammed Jawad Sitrawi said, "Bapco understands that investing in next-generation data protection infrastructure would allow us to better support future business growth while simultaneously improving the availability and performance of backup and recovery infrastructure." He further added, "By using EMC Data Domain we have been able to create the industry-leading backup and recovery architecture needed to meet competitive growth in the future while simultaneously driving down costs and managerial complexities associated with the traditional tape-based architecture." "As a result of this deployment, Bapco has been able to simplify day-to-day backup operations and renew its confidence in recoverability of critical data and applications when needed to allow us to focus on industry innovation" Mr. Sitrawi concluded.

On his part, Mr. Habib Mahakian, Regional General Manager, Gulf and Pakistan at EMC Corporation said, "As a leader in the regional oil and gas industry, Bapco understood the need for a technology overhaul particular to the company's backup and recovery infrastructure to better manage and protect critical business data and applications. With a vision to go tapeless, Bapco selected EMC Data Domain systems to create the always-online data protection architecture for mission critical applications and database systems." "Using the new deduplication capabilities, Bapco has been able to reduce the overall cost of data protection services while enabling a single-console reporting and monitoring system to resolve issues in a timely manner to meet critical SLAs and compliance regulations" Mr. Mahakian concluded.
