14-year Dubai resident gets lucky with last of four tickets

Dubai, August 15, 2004: Mohammed Younis, a Bangladeshi national working at Rashid Hospital in Dubai, struck it rich yesterday when he became the sixth winner of the DSS Grand Summer Raffle Draw.

Married with one son, Younis has lived and worked in Dubai for 14 years, and during that time purchased a number of tickets in other city-wide raffles such as the Dubai Duty Free. This year, he opted to buy four tickets in the DSS Grand Summer Raffle Draw, and won on Friday with his last ticket, number 1990.

"I can't believe that I have won, I'm so happy," he said. "This was my last coupon, and I can't believe it has won me two BMW cars and Dhs. 100,000."

Younis said he would definitely sell the two cars because he needs the money to help alleviate a financial crunch. He also hopes to maybe start a small business of his own, but only after talking it through with his father.

The raffle, the-first-of-its-kind promotion, is being organised by the Dubai Summer Surprises Office, in association with Arabian Gulf Mechanical Centre (AGMC), the exclusive importer of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, and Emarat.

The Grand Summer Raffle coupons, each worth Dh200, are available at 33 Emarat stations in Dubai, in addition to special booths at Deira City Centre, BurJuman Centre, Baniyas Street, Al Fahidi Street and the Gold Souq. Among the Emarat Stations where the tickets are made available include Al Khubaisi, Hor Al Anz, Kuwait, Al Awir, Nad Al Hamar, Beach, Jebel Ali, Naharwan, Dana, Al Wejdan, Al Muhaisna, Taqniya, Muteena, Al Bustan, Al Madares, Galadari, Atrium/C-Store, Abu Khadra, Bridge, Karama, Al Wasl, Bin Hendi, Dubai Internet City, Al Rajhan, Al Raed, Garhoud, Safa Park, Lamtara, Chicago Beach, Al Dhiyafa, Al Adhed, Al Hassa, Umm Suqueim, and Jatabiyah (Ras Al Khor).

The promotion includes 7 prizes, comprising 14 BMW cars and a cash prize of Dh 700,000. As part of the promotion, one winner walks away with a BMW X3, a BMW 520i and Dh100,000 in cash bringing the total value of the prize money to Dh450,000. Dubai Business Channel telecasts the proceedings live during the 'Grand Summer Raffle' draws, on Fridays at 9pm.

Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in the Back-2-School Surprises week organised by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18 and ends with Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19-27, 2004.
