Deployment Reduces Downtime and Increases Availability of Mission Critical Applications

Manama, BAHRAIN October 17, 2004. -VERITAS Software (Nasdaq: VRTS), announced today that Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) has implemented VERITAS Backup Exec and VERITAS Cluster Server to ensure that its vast stores of information are secure from unplanned downtime and remain highly available to employees.

Responsible for the smooth running of ground operations at Bahrain International Airport, BAS handles everything from cargo and engineering to passenger care processes, such as cateringThe airport is one of the Middle East's largest and busiest travel hubs and BAS is responsible for the smooth transit of approximately 4.2 million passengers a year.  On average, the company prepares 3.8 million meals and handles 160,000 tons of cargo each year, statistics that are likely to increase as the airport's operations expand to utilize its handling capacity of 10 million travellers per annum.

"Being responsible for everything from cargo and engineering to catering and traffic means BAS generates a huge volume of critical data every day," said Mohammed Rashed, IT manager at BAS. "To ensure that visitors and users of the airport get the highest standard of service, it is vital that our team has access to vital business information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  VERITAS Backup Exec and VERITAS Cluster Server will significantly improve our processes."

"BAS has a 24-hour, 365-day a year operation.  Bahrain International Airport never closes, so BAS cannot suspend operations and downtime is not an option," said Sam Tayan, regional manager, VERITAS Middle East.  "The deployment of these VERITAS products has supplied BAS with one of the most advanced data protection solutions money can buy.  Full security of all critical information is guaranteed, as is the continuance of essential processes even in the most demanding situations."

VERITAS Backup Exec provides automated protection of critical data and applications, simplifying routine network administration and reducing the number of staff hours lost to everyday processes.  Advanced backup and recovery facilities, such as offsite data storage, minimize the consequences should the worst happen, allowing users to have confidence in the integrity of their most crucial information.

VERITAS Cluster Server eliminates downtime by ensuring that every server is supported by a backup facility should a cut-out event take place.  Integrated with VERITAS Global Cluster Manager, Cluster Server supports cross-cluster management and application migration in up to 256 clusters across a single site, between locations and worldwide, for advanced disaster recovery administration.
