ArabLab, the Expo, the Middle East's largest laboratory and Instrumentation trade fair has long been recognized to be the most effective launch pad of new and path-breaking technology into the region by companies across the world. This year, the exhibition will feature yet another innovative technology, the CASY Electronic Cell Analysing Technology developed by the German company, Sch?rfe System, to be made available in the Middle East for the first time. ArabLab is being held from January 31-February 3, 2005 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC).

Jrgens Scientific Centre, also known as OMNILAB-LABORZENTRUM is one of Germany's leading laboratory solutions providers representing - manufacturers of high-tech laboratory equipment including, Schrfe System, Gerhardt, Heidolph, Heraeus, Ika, Memmert, Applichem, Clean Air and Zeiss. Schrfe System's CASY-Technology has been developed for the easy, fast and reliable quality control of cell cultures and has been proven to yield the most accurate results for cell number, cell viability, cell volume and cell aggregation.

Jrgens Scientific Centre is also introducing their new and completely updated lab catalogue, featuring the latest products of mainly German lab manufacturers. "The catalogue is an extremely handy tool for lab dealers in the Middle East looking for a comprehensive source of information on instrumentation products, with up to date specifications of all products still to be introduced in 2005. Arab Lab is a good point for starting distribution for the catalogue as the region's lab and health care industry is developing at a fast pace. The catalogue is backed up by a new web-shop system with advanced search functions for improved access," said Gnther Klann, Export Manager, Jrgens Scientific Centre.

Commenting on the CASY-Technology, Dr. Bernd Glauner, Sales and Application Manager at Schrfe System stated, "This cell analysing technology is the first on the market to objectively analyse cell viability with the non-invasive, dye-free Electrical Current Exclusion Method. Together with the basic data for every cell culture control -cell number, cell volume and cell aggregation -the CASY-Technology guarantees the comparability of the results from user to user, and from laboratory to laboratory on a daily basis. The CASY-Technology combines in a unique way a globally accepted physical measuring principle for exact cell counting and cell size analysis with modern electronic signal analysis for viability determination and aggregation correction. This results in an outstanding performance with highest reproducibility and standardisation as well as easy and fast handling."

"The field of applications for the CASY-Technology extends to all laboratories working with biological cells - mammalian cells, yeast, algae and bacteria - in routine research, production, universities, research centres and bio-pharmaceutical industries. We are certain that the growing number of Middle East companies working in these fields will see the CASY-Technology as a must-have for their labs," he added.

Many laboratories around the world are still working with dye exclusion methods such as Trypan Blue for the determination of cell viability. The problem of these methods is the toxic effect of the dye. During the incubation with the dye, which takes a few minutes, sensitive or pre-damaged living cells are killed. Therefore the results often are not reliable and reproducible. Most researchers need to 100 % rely on the results of their equipment and cannot afford even small variations. The CASY-Technology has solved this problem by using the highly standardized, non-invasive Electrical Current Exclusion Method (ECEM) for the viability determination. With ECEM, the real viability of the cells is determined with high accuracy. In addition The CASY-Technology is fully compliant to the CE-standard and to the rules of GLP/GMP (Good Laboratory/Manufacturing Practise) as well as FDA rules 21 CRF (Code of Federal Regulation), Part 11.

Another distinctive feature of the CASY-Technology is the certified factory calibration. This feature guarantees, that the measuring results are retraceable and can be directly compared from user to user and from one laboratory to another on a daily basis. Measuring the result no longer depends on the individual staff experience and random device adjustment. A specific sample provides identical measuring results, no matter whoever works where and when with any CASY system.

Every CASY is equipped with interactive remote service facilities. All device parameters and functions can be retrieved and handled by service and support units. Automatic self-test routines recognise technical problems and handling mistakes immediately and reliably. Maintenance, repair and individual support can be planned providing additional system safety for the user. In addition, the results of more than 15 years of collecting special knowledge in the field of cell analysis can be transferred by means of sample measurements and sample set-ups or by direct contact to skilled product specialists at Schrfe System.
