Mediclinic Middle East donates simulator to Dubai Healthcare City

Dubai, 14 January 2014: Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a health and wellness destination that brings together a wealth of services in healthcare, medical education and research, has received an ambulance simulator from Mediclinic Middle East (MCME), the UAE's largest private healthcare company.

The ambulance used for simulation is integral to emergency response training at DHCC's Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center (KHMSC), which is the first comprehensive simulation training facility of its kind in the region.

The simulation sessions with the ambulance will provide medical students and health professionals with a realistic first responder experience in a risk-free environment. Trainees will be able to learn from scenarios across a range of crisis interventions such as cardiac arrest management, and emergencies including trauma, breathing difficulties and obstetrics.

The sessions will allow trainees to familiarise with conditions with limited space and practise technical aspects of working in an ambulance. The ambulance is equipped with the latest technology to facilitate emergency scenarios.

The ambulance in simulation is part of the clinical pathway training - from the emergency department to intensive care unit, operating room and discharge.

Marwan Abedin, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Healthcare City acknowledged the donation in the presence of David Hadley, Chief Executive Officer, Mediclinic Middle East and other senior representatives.

Commenting on the donation, Abedin said: "We are always looking to train the next generation of medical professionals in near-realistic conditions and this generous donation from Mediclinic Middle East helps further our goal. The ability to practise in simulated scenarios is key to developing confidence to prepare for real-life critical medical situations.

"The collaboration between Mediclinic Middle East and Dubai Healthcare City further reaffirms our strategic partnership towards building capacity in healthcare."

Hadley said: "As part of our continuous relationship and commitment to Dubai Healthcare City, Mediclinic Middle East (MCME) has donated a simulation ambulance to assist with the up-skilling of doctors, nurses and paramedics in a realistic training environment.  MCME recognises the importance of training healthcare professionals to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes, and benefit Dubai residents."

Mediclinic City Hospital, a Joint Commission International accredited facility, was the first multi-speciality hospital to open in DHCC. In 2013, the Mediclinic Group announced its Mediclinic City Hospital expansion project at DHCC.
