Contestants from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran and South Africa renew their battle for top culinary honours

Dubai, UAE, September 3, 2007: Budding chefs from the UAE, Iran, Saudi Arabia and South Africa will once again engage themselves in a keen contest for the top culinary honours with the upcoming 2nd LG Regional SolarDOM Competition, which kicks off in Dubai on September 6.

The UAE round of the event, organized by global and regional digital leader LG Electronics, will take place in two phases - Dubai (September 6th) and Abu Dhabi (September 10th). The organisers have attributed this to the overwhelming number of entries anticipated this time based on the success of the previous event, held last year.

"The LG Regional SolarDOM competitions are a great way to get to know and interact with our primary customer base for digital appliances," explained Mr. K. W. Kim, President, LG Electronics - Middle East and Africa. "More importantly, it is a chance for everyone to enjoy themselves as they partake in an activity that is universally loved - cooking. It is also a tribute to the cultural and culinary diversity of this vast region and an opportunity for people to showcase their rich heritage."

Last year's event saw over 18 competitors from the four countries participating with a strong contingent from Iran taking most of the honours.

The LG Regional SolarDOM Competition allows culinary enthusiasts the chance to put their skills to the test at an event that has become a milestone in LG's annual calendar. After UAE, the competition will travel to Saudi Arabia, Iran and South Africa in search of the best among local amateur chefs before returning to the UAE, where the regional finals are scheduled take place on November 19.

Competitors can participate in either individual or team categories with a total of five winners from each category being selected to participate on the presentation date. A high-profile panel of expert judges will decide on 10 winning recipes - 5 individual entries and 5 team entries. What's more, six out of the 10 winners - 4 individual entries and 2 teams - will get a chance to prepare and share their recipes live at the special grand finale to be held in Dubai on November 19.

All entries will be evaluated for taste, style, presentation and preparation skills. "I hope to see a great number of enthusiastic participants this year, and if the previous years are anything to go by, the competition will be stiff and very exciting to watch," said Mr Kim.

Winners of the competition will receive LG SolarDOM microwave ovens and the runners-up will be awarded with other great prizes.

The next-generation LG SolarDOM is the counter-top light-wave oven that combines both conventional oven and microwave oven technologies. The oven outsmarts conventional cooking appliances in terms of design as well; and acknowledgment confirmed by the iF Design Award, one of the world's most pre-eminent design achievements.
