Dubai, UAE – 9 November 2020: By 2040, the majority of protein consumed by humans will not come from animals, but rather from plant substitutes or cultivated meat, according to Kearney, a leading global management consulting firm.

Additionally, according to Data Bridge Market Research, the Middle East and Africa (MEA) alternative proteins market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.3% from 2020 to 2027 and is expected to a value reach USD1.03 billion, prompting major food producers to accelerate their efforts to transition towards developing more meat alternative products.

This sharp rise in demand, driven by health-conscious consumers, was in focus at the seventh edition of Gulfood Manufacturing.

Commenting on the rapidly evolving trend, Stephanie von Stein, Associate Director International Engagement, The Good Food Institute said: “Alternative proteins are an emerging and promising category, which will help us feed the world’s population, which is set to reach 10 billion. We can’t produce enough meat, so we need alternative technologies to make that happen.

"Alternative proteins are a key climate solution. Tremendous opportunities exist for companies and investors to participate at every point along the value chain.”
