Dubai, UAE: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, underlined that district cooling services, installed appropriately to match the required cooling load precisely, will significantly enhance the health and happiness of customers, and will increase the sustainability of buildings and facilities, in addition to the value it will add to modern projects that contribute to creating happy communities. This supports the UAE’s objectives to create a healthier and happier society, based on its firm belief that smart cities create happy residents.
The statement came out on the occasion of Cityscape Global, which is being held at Dubai World Trade Centre, from 2 to 4 October, under the theme ‘happiness’.
Empower highlighted that district cooling is the ideal solution for real estate projects. Real estate companies participating in Cityscape Global included Dubai Properties, Meraas Holding, TECOM, DAMAC Properties Dubai, Deyaar Development, Azizi Developments, among others. By the end of 2017, the number of buildings using Empower’s district cooling services reached 1,000 residential and commercial buildings, offices, 120 hotels, schools, and hospitals. Empower achieved total savings of 1,072MW of electricity, equivalent to AED 2.79 billion as of 2017. Empower’s district cooling services also contribute to environmental conservation and carbon footprint reduction. In addition, it saves space compared to conventional cooling systems. This allows project owners to utilise this space for other operations and facilities for the buildings.
“Cityscape Global 2018 is the region's most prominent real estate event. It is a platform attracting ambitious investors and developers across the region, in the UAE, to review projects and learn about the best and latest practices in the field of modern sustainable cities. These cities adopt district cooling services, for their economic, environmental and sustainable benefits. We advise consultants and real estate developers to allocate suitable cooling load capacity for their projects to maximise the benefit of district cooling services,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
Bin Shafar noted that this year's Cityscape Global will achieve remarkable success, given the property boom and economic recovery in Dubai. He confirmed that Empower works with leading real estate projects of all kinds in Dubai, by providing district cooling services according to global standards.
District cooling, which has been included in the UN’s top energy efficiency accelerators, under the UNEP’s ‘Sustainable Energy for All’ initiative, has been successfully implemented in many of the major developments in the country.
By the end of 2017, the number of Empower district cooling plants reached to 73 cooling plants. It also achieved total savings of 295 million gallons of desalinated water.
Empower currently operates over 1.34 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Design District and International Media Production Zone, among others.
