The future of a nation depends on its young citizens. AMSI schools launch Model Federal National Council (MFNC) - a first of its kind platform in the UAE that aims to develop a new generation of Emirati students who could positively contribute to the future of the UAE. The formation of MFNC was inspired by the 'Year of Zayed' and by the vision and the hopes of the leaders of the UAE.
The unveiling of the MFNC was held on 19th March at the auditorium of Al Mawakeb Al Khawaneej. Over 400 guests consisting of distinguished alumni, parents and members of the UAE's Federal National Council saw the launch of this initiative.
112 Emirati students of Grades 9 - 12 from the three AMSI schools - Al Mawakeb Al Garhoud, Al
Mawakeb Al Barsha and The International School of Arts and Sciences, were declared the first group to lead the first Model Federal National Council (MFNC) conference next October. They will debate, deliberate, research, consult and draft resolutions for issues relevant to the Emirati youth and the UAE community.
The platform aims to give Emirati students an opportunity to learn about the social, cultural and economic issues that affect the UAE. It educates them about the procedural rules of the UAE federal system, current events and diplomacy through an academic simulation of the UAE Federal Council.
It further helps the students to develop critical thinking, public speaking, research, and communication skills, policy analysis, active listening and negotiating skills, and mediation capabilities. The initiative also encourages civic responsibility and Arabic literacy – Arabic being the sole language used in all meetings and presentations.
"The goal of MFNC is to strengthen the national identity, reinforce the Arabic language, and promote understanding of national and international issues, to inspire a consciousness to current topics important to the youth and to develop global mindset. The project has ignited within the Emirati students a sense of pride, a sense of community and a sense of responsibility to be part of their nation’s growth.”, said Samira Al Awadhi, Vice Principal of Al Mawakeb Al Khawaneej.
