Abu Dhabi City Municipality – Through Shahama Municipal Center, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in cooperation with the strategic partners including the Desert Group and the Coast Guard, had launched a crackdown on boats and motorboats abandoned at the Fishermen's Port in Sadr City.
The campaign reaffirms the keenness of the Municipality and its partners to protect the marine environment and preserve the modern appearance of Abu Dhabi City & its environs. The campaign will continue until the city is free from all types of eyesores.
Since the start of the campaign, the Municipality towed away 17 boats, and boat owners moved 50 boats, showing their commitment to make the campaign a success.
The Municipality communicated with the boat owners to raise awareness and urged them to take care of them. The Municipality served warning to owners of neglected boats, highlighted to them the importance of taking necessary actions, giving them a grace period to redress their attitudes. The Municipality then coordinated the Desert Group and Coast Guard to remove the violating boats particularly those left on the pavement after the lapse of the grace period.
The Municipality is left with no option but to slap a fine of AED 3000 on each violator as per the laws & regulations in force, besides holding violators responsible for paying the costs of towing their boats to the impounding area. The Municipality calls upon all owners of boats & cars not to leave them unattended for an extended period as such malpractice would mar the public appearance and pollute the environment.
The Municipality and its partners aspire to enhance the values of social responsibility and preserve the marine environment, waterfront & beaches by not leaving abandoned or sunken boats as they distort beaches and marine environment. The Municipality once more reminded them to remove them away from beaches and take care of the general appearance of cities, beaches and public utilities.
