"A right beginning is the way towards an effective application of the concepts of the New School Model" H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) today held a set of 29 training sessions across the emirate of Abu Dhabi for 4000 teachers simultaneously.  The training sessions follow ADEC's Bedaya Forum; held yesterday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), bringing together over 6,000 KG1-Grade 3 teachers, cluster managers, and newly-appointed faculty heads for the official roll-out of the New School Model (NSM). This program is a continuation of ADEC's Teaching and Learning Academy, in partnership with Leed's Global Partners.

ADEC's professional development, headed by Leed's Global Partners, will be fully implemented across KG1-Cycle 1 schools this school year.  Training sessions will be held at the school's premises by faculty heads four days a week for an hour a day for the next 30 weeks.  The sessions will focus on best practices, parent communications, and NSM implementation.  Upon completion, the 4,000 teachers will receive a certificate of completion.

"Professional development of our teachers is an integral part of our NSM and ADEC's overall 10 Year Strategic Plan," said H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General at ADEC. "The material handed out in today's training session is designed to ensure teachers to come together and start right," he added.

The Director General also visited Al Mawaheb Model School today, one of the training centers.  He was accompanied by H.E. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director for School Operations.  Dr. Mugheer spoke to the teachers during their session about the changes set to take place in the NSM and their primary role in bringing this to fruition.  Dr. Mugheer also mentioned that ADEC's agreement with the Finnish teachers will see not only transfer of knowledge but also see 45 Emirati teachers receive a master's degree in education.  H.E. Dr. Mugheer also welcome the new licensed teachers set to begin this new school year.

"I've been very anxious to meet my local colleagues.  Now that I've met them, I cannot wait to work with such cheerful and professional people," said Mrs. Minna Repo, a new licensed teacher at Al Amin School in Abu Dhabi. "During my time here I would like to assist my colleagues with my years of international experience as well as learn the Arabic culture and language.  Hopefully, I will be able to speak to my colleagues in Arabic one day," she added.

The modules taken today during the training session included: preparation of the first six weeks of school and parent communications.  Best practices, student development, and proper use of facilities to create a student-centered learning environment.  The different methods learned will allows students to be encouraged to learn and explore in a safe and creative environment. In addition, effective participation of parents and the society will be enhanced to consolidate cooperation with schools to ensure better outcomes and continuous communication between parents and schools.
