Abu Dhabi - 20 October 2009:  The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) today welcomed H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to the ADEC stand at the Najah Education Training Careers 2009.  

During the exhibition, being held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from Tuesday October 20 until Thursday October 22, ADEC will showcase Abu Dhabi's world class educational opportunities.  The exhibition is the largest educational, training, and career exhibition in the region offering visitors a wide array of information from job profiling and careers advice to specific information about university courses and recruitment services.

As one of the major sponsors of the event, ADEC's stand is hosting information booths for its key higher education partners (INSEAD, New York University, Paris Sorbonne, Vocational Education Training Institute, Emirates College for Advanced Education) as well as ADEC booths with specific information about ADEC training programmes and scholarships.

ADEC has, with schools, organized a series of school visits from across the Emirate to Najah, providing Abu Dhabi students with first hand access to tailored information, seminars and careers counselors about further education and career path development.

"The main purpose of ADEC exhibiting at Najah is to allow students to envision their path after high school.  Be it further studies, vocational training, or entry into the workforce," said H.E. Salem Al Sayeri, Executive Director of Support Services and Acting Director General of ADEC.

"A student might have in mind that he/she wants to study business.  After going around the exhibition and seeing the array of educational and training opportunities he/she might decide that engineering is a better choice," added H.E. Mr. Al Sayeri "Supporting students to explore all their educational and career options is a key element of ADEC's 10 Year Strategic Plan and is part of our commitment to supporting students every step of the way."

ADEC's 10 Year Strategic Plan focuses on transforming the education system to a system of education excellence. The plan sets out ADEC's systematic approach towards creating the highest quality, comprehensive system of education from early childhood to university to adult education based on world-class standards and expertise that will support the Emirate's 2030 Economic Vision.

With the 2009-2010 school year underway, a number of initiatives are already in implementation phase. These initiatives specifically focus on rapid improvement in Cycle 3 (grades 10-12) so that students in these grades experience a series of measures that will seek to give them the extra support, skills and confidence they require to meet the entry criteria for college, university and the world of work. One of the key and most vital strategies of the Plan is the introduction of a bilingual approach to instruction. This will include increasing the focus on both Arabic and English language study through new curricula. Increasing Science and Math capabilities is also central to the Plan.  

"Through the Strategic Plan, students will develop greater analytical skills and learn to be thinkers and problem solvers. Stronger analytical skills combined with greater bilingual skills will give our students the best path to higher education and skill development. Najah is an important source of information for students as they develop skills and get closer to making decisions about their futures and I encourage all students to take advantage of this wonderful resource right here in our capital city" said H.E. Mr. Al Sayeri.

This is the third year Najah Education Training Careers has taken place in Abu Dhabi.  It will be open to visitors from 10 am to 7 pm on each day of the exhibition and will provide extended hours on the Thursday 22nd October until 9 pm.  ADEC will be bringing students in daily from 10 am until 2 pm with seminars scheduled at 11 am on each day.  A special time for female only visitors is available on Wednesday 21st October from 10 am until 2 pm.
