Abu Dhabi, UAE - The new Terminal 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport is to follow the lead of Terminals 1 and 2 to ensure that the five million passengers who use this important Gulf gateway benefit from the most popular check-in and baggage reconciliation systems in use today at airports worldwide and provided by SITA.
Georges Hannouche, CEO, Data Processing Systems, Abu Dhabi, said, "We were keen that when we found ourselves once again equipping a new terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport that we should do so with advanced and proven IT systems such as the SITA solutions already in place in Terminals 1, 1A and 2.
"We look forward to working again with SITA to complete this exciting project that will enable passengers, airport management, airlines and other partners using Terminal 3 to enjoy the benefits of the highest international standards in IT and communications infrastructure."
SITA is to provide its industry leading systems including AirportConnect CUTE (Common Use Terminal Equipment) check-in service, Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) and Departure Control System. These are all part of the Special Airport Systems' package that DPS will be providing to Terminal 3, as a subcontractor to Murray Roberts/ Al Habtoor JV.
SITA will both install and maintain SITA's CUTE system; SITA's BagManager service for baggage reconciliation; PassengerHandler, a common language facility designed for airline and handling agent staff to process passengers at the check-in counter more efficiently; and SITA's leading departure control system, MaestroDCS Local. These solutions are designed to help optimize resources by reducing flight delays, increasing passenger satisfaction and lowering baggage-handling costs.
Hani El-Assaad, SITA Regional Vice-President, Middle East and Turkey, said: "We are delighted to be working again with DPS on this project at Abu Dhabi International Airport and to be able to contribute to the on-going development of the UAE's transport infrastructure. We look forward to supporting Abu Dhabi International Airport in its goal of offering travellers a state-of-the-art facility that will simplify and speed up their journey."
SITA's AirportConnect CUTE platform, based on industry standards, will operate on 75 workstations based in Terminal 3. The shared common use check-in platform will enable every desk in the new terminal to be connected to each airline's departure control system, helping to maximize the use of the airport's resources.
SITA currently manages some 30,000 CUTE workstations for 285 customers in more than 200 airport locations worldwide, checking-in an estimated 580 million passengers a year.
