Expanding market skills supports growing 'MICE' sector and demand for events

The 50 participants attending Meeting Professionals International's (MPI) 5 day workshop last week for event and meeting planners, have been awarded with the internationally recognized 'Global Certificate in Meeting Operations 1' (GCMO1).

Mohammed Jassim Al Naama, Deputy CEO, Qatar MICE Development Institute (QMDI), presented the certificate to each of the successful participants during the graduation ceremony.  The intensive week-long program which took place last week, required participants to pass the course assessment to qualify for the GCMO1.

Mohammed Jassim Al Naama speaking at the ceremony said: "I congratulate everyone who succeeded and I am also proud to welcome them as qualified event professionals.  I am sure that they will take their newly learned knowledge to help organize more events in Qatar, raise the bar through expertise and make a significant contribution to what is an important and growing industry sector."

"GCMO1 was launched in Qatar to the same high standards and content integrity, which MPI is respected for globally." commented Joyce Dogniez, CMM & Director of Operations, MPI EMEA  "We have provided the meeting and event community with premier training and development programs for 35 years, and this has allowed us to become the world's leading body with 24 thousand members. We look forward to running more educational and knowledge transfer programs with our partners QMDI in the near future." Dogniez furthered.

Event sponsor, Qatar Airways also voiced their support of Qatar's mandate to develop the country into a leading world-class event destination at the welcome reception held earlier in the week.

Qatar Airways Regional Manager Qatar, Ehab Abdel Fattah Amin stated: "Qatar Airways is proud to support such a renowned program, which will further boost the country's already booming MICE market. Our airline plays a key role in creating Qatar's infrastructure for the MICE sector as our product and premium facilities place a strong emphasis on business travelers needs. He added, that Qatar Airways has a dedicated MICE department, which is available 24/7 to accommodate such specialist travel requests.

The MPI hosted training event was organized in partnership with Qatar MICE Development Institute (QMDI); and sponsored by Qatar Airways, Gulf Adventures and Qatar National Convention Centre.  Leading organizations such as Qatar Foundation, Qatar Tourism & Exhibition Authority, Qatar Islamic Cultural Center, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, CAPCO, Supreme Council of Information & Communication Technology, Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Al Shaqab, Reach Out to Asia, Al Fardan Automobile Co., De Boer, Qatar University, College of North Atlantic and TBWA all supported the GCMO1 program by sending delegates to attend the workshop.  To cater for the waiting list of people wishing to attend the course, a second workshop has been planned for early 2009.
