For the first time in Kuwait and the region

Kuwait -27th January , 2009: 360 MALL announced the latest addition to its unique retail offer, with the creation of the world's largest indoor living wall.  This innovative vertical garden marks a new eco-friendly element to the 360 Mall on offer.

The wall is yet another part of the 360 MALL's creative master plan in order to provide a world class shopping and entertainment experience. This ambitious visual and aromatic centerpiece is a living botanical wonder containing an extensive array of ferns, orchids and geraniums.

This innovative organic architecture is created by sprinkling plant seeds on a fabric layer which allows plants to grow naturally across the available space. This layer is then attached to a wire frame and to a plastic-like material, and will ultimately weigh about 30 kilograms per square meter once completed.  The process of watering and fertilization is automated. This technical solution means that the vertical garden is flexible and can be adapted to any size wall or space as needed, and as the plants grow without soil it creates a lightweight organic feature for public spaces.

Rachid Kamza, Tamdeen Shopping Center's Deputy General Manager of Developments and Projects said: "Our goal with 360 MALL is to create an environment that is unlike any other shopping center here in Kuwait.  The vertical garden is not only a thing of beauty; it also has environmental benefits for the mall.  As well as the natural impact of plants on the air quality in the mall, it also helps lower energy consumption in both winter and summer.  This is about bringing a taste of the natural beauty we all value back into our daily lives."

Patric Blanc, a botanist and the inventor of the Vertical Garden said: "This vertical garden is set to become a must-see destination for people in Kuwait and beyond.  It is something people will want to see and experience for themselves.  However, the ecological benefits are equally important.   The felt is designed to consume any air-borne pollutants and convert them to plant fertiliser making the Vertical Garden an efficient tool for air and water remediation.  That combination of beauty and practicality typifies the 360 MALL offer."
